I have a 69 charger 500 that when i got it the front sheet metal was gone. Now i have a 68 coronet grill and a 69 charger grill shell, but am unsure as what to get or do to make the coronet grill go in it the right way,Would anyone have an idea on this??

RallyeMike

You need special mounting bracket pieces to fit the Cornet grill. Use the search function to find pictures and information - you'll find it useful. I'd take some photos of mine for you, but I have no camera.

Would you mind sharing some more info on your car or maybe even posting some photos?

Welcome to the site. Your car wouldn't happen to be a very late run C500 would it? There was a green 500 that I had heard about in the MO area a few years ago that was in pieces.

red69superbee

Hey thanks!  It did seem like i saw someplace that had those brackets, but couldnt find them so thought i had dreamed it.I will take a few pics of it, its not much of a car. Before i got it someone cut all the floor from front to back out of it and was gonna make a daytona clone drag car.It is f8 green with green interior, 440 auto with power steering and i will have to guess on the rest.Fender tag is gone, of course..vin XX29L9B155997

That is crazy someone had the idea to cut up a real 500 to build it into a drag car. Do you know about when the work began. Maybe it was enough years ago when a 500 wasn't nearly as valuable. Can't wait to see pictures.

Ditto,   These cars weren't worth squat in the 70S and into the 80S.  I could have bought a Daytona that was complete and needed a nose for $2500 but I didn't have $25.00 at the time.

im not real sure about the build date.I do know that at Monster mopar in 2010, there was a red one that was one vin different.I believe it was sold to them in 1986, and more than likely was off the road since then.I actually have a distant picture of this car in 1995 that i took at R&R salvage in Aurora mo.It was together then except the engine was gone, the cutting up of it was between then and 2005 when i got it.This car came from my area in the early eighties, i looked at when i was 14 about 1981 or so, and the engine was out then.Saw it a few more times and saw it drive by me one time about 1983.Was looking for it later and just happened to find it after all.I will take some pics this week, its not much to look at,but i still like it!

I know these cars are kind of non-descript and that's probabaly what has led so many of them into deterioration, being used for parts, or even crushed..... but it still amazes me every time that there seem to be so many in poor condition  :shruggy:

Good luck with the project.

The 4 pictures are my car exactly, in fact thats what it looked like when i saw it and traded for it.It was at a good friends shop in Marshfield.I havent had time to do anything with it yet, but at least i can get new floor for it,It may look bad, but that stuff cut probably saved me some time as a lot of the sheet metal was probably rusted out anyhow.Wonder how they got the head lites in the new position to meet the grill?

check out this post of Troy's...

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,68944.0.html

...if you study the picts, you can kinda get the idea. The headlight panel is the same as the one used in 68 Coronet fenders, with 3 extra mounting tabs welded on (top middle, bottom middle, and on the side toward the grille), and this gets bolted to the Charger grille frame (new holes will have to be drilled) and screwed to the fender. The grill center is mounted with special brackets too, and new holes for these will also have to be drilled....

red69superbee

Yea, thanks .After looking at the links, i actually have a 68 coronet parts car that i went out in the dark to verify that it does have those round ended headlite buckets. So now the Dayclona guy, anybody know if they are still in business? Those black filler pieces kits that he showed is definitely something i need..Wasnt having any luck with his website is why im asking.

Mike is a member here, and a super nice guy. User name is DAY CLONA...not sure if he is still selling stuff or not, but send him a message, can't hurt to ask.
