Michigan Trip - Groovy

I just got back from a two day trip to MI.  The main purpose of my trip was to visit two of my customers but I also wanted to pick up a few things for my car.

I stopped at Eaton Detroit Spring  http://www.eatonsprings.com/ in Detroit on Tuesday and picked up a pair of leaf springs as well as the mounting kit.  Very nice people to deal with.  The springs look great, as does the hardware.     I have included a couple of pics for you.  They weigh a ton so I am sure I saved a pile of dough on shipping as well as duties, more on that later.   :D

After meeting with a customer later that afternoon I stopped by Inline Tube http://www.inlinetube.com/ to pick up some fuel lines.  I needed the 3/8" and the 1/4" return lines and was pleased to find out that they fit into my Wife's Pacifica without having to bend them.  For shipping purposes, they put a slight bend in the tubes that you must gently roll out prior to installing them on the car.  I wonder how many people have kinked or broken their lines trying to get that bend out?  Anyways, I saved some dough on shipping there also.  Oh yeah, I also got the 2 piece line set that connects the fuel pump to the carburator and the rubber fuel lines to connect everything, with the proper clamps Chris.

I mentioned earlier about duties and customs.  If I am out of the country for 48hrs I am allowed to bring back $400.00 CDN worth of goods, duty free.  I had about $800.00 CDN worth of goods and I was somewhat up front with the customs agent as I crossed back into Canada.  The standard questions, "how long have you been out of the country?" and "did you receive or purchase anything?"  I couldn't deny the fuel lines as they ran from the back of the vehicle right up to the windshield but never mentioned the springs.  They were almost in plain view.  I also claimed the case of beer I bought at duty free.  She simply told me to have a nice day.  Saved a bunch on duties today.

With regards to the potential group buy that runningman was trying to set up, I am sorry that I wasn't able to participate but I had an opportunity to purchase these lines and bring them back without having to bend them.  Thanks just the same.  Very noble of you to try and set that up.

Should have let me know, I probably could have gotten you the discount with you picking them up.  Also next time you are in town let me know, I am only about 15 mins from inline.  How much for the leaf springs?  I am looking into getting some soon.  Thanks  matt

Bought it in Canada on my way out - $24.00 CDN at the duty free shop.  $16.00 CDN less than at the beer store.

I'll keep that in mind for when I am ready to purchase my brake lines and my parking brake cables.  Thanks.

BTW, those folks are a pleasure to deal with.  I dealt with Tom initially and then Dustin.

I was hopin' to also get the 3/8" fuel tank sending unit with the 1/4" return line but they were back ordered.  After asking nicely, they gave me the name of the manufacturer, a Canadian company called Spectra Premium.  http://www.spectrapremium.com/  These folks supply numerous parts, in this case the sending unit, to other outfits such as NAPA, Carquest Rock Auto etc.  Inline said it would take a week to get it and they would ship it to me in Canada wheras I contacted my local Carquest and I will be able to pick it up Friday AM as there were two at the warehouse in Toronto.

Although the folks at Inline may have passed on that sending unit sale, they passed the Shakey cutomer service test and will be the first people I call when I need a product that they could potentially supply.

Even without buying it at the duty free, you guys can usually buy our beer cheaper at a Kroger or someplace like that cheaper than we can here. :flame:
