Cool story on the local news; with high unemployment for returning vets but Ecology had some cool work for them to do.   :2thumbs:
I hope other communities are providing vets with this kind of opportunity.

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
      a liberal, oh fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable!

At least for the past twenty years vets have been given a huge advantage.  That and all other affirmative action has resulted in the governments that we have.  People should be hired based on their merit alone.  Plus it just doesn't work.  Once I saw a fellow federal lawyer on a hiring committee being forced to change her ranking of a candidate because the favored applicant kept losing to an artificially boosted veteran.  Glad it wasn't me.  I was the last straight white male hired there in the past 20 years.  Kim

IMO
Everyone should be hired based on there qualifications - Period.
Not just because they are / were from the armed forces .

Youve got to be kidding me! What a total derailment. You've turned this great, positive story into an opportunity to preach on your personal view points on un/fair employment practices? These are short term workers - not career jobs. You are really saying that Vets coming back from serving our Country to 9% unemployment don't even deserve this small opportunity ?!

What else do you expect of a draft dodger?
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

I always told soldiers that Vet benefits would get them hired first, but it would not get them past 90 days if they couldn't do the job as well as the other applicants.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but that's probabaly because I avoid Fox news like a lobotomy (which, Fox Nooz effectively produces).

I was #153 in the draft lottery -- still have my draft card and was never drafted.   I devoted 18 years of my life defending the United States, more than most veterans.  I am entitled to my opinion.  And, frankly, giving affirmative action to vets or anyone else results in less than best people for jobs.  Kim

.... and still completely missing the point that your opinion about affirmative action policies has very little if anything to do with the topic of this thread. This is short-term, basically unskilled labor opportunity. Hard to screw up the result, "best" people not required, short term work and a small benefit for some folks who deserve at least this much.
