To me I think he has took what could be a nice car and made it less desirable. He would do better with his sale with out the smart comment.
On EBay #260894160721 a 74 duster some one put a 355 sbc in.He said it could be put back Mopar if you want to make it slow. Does it bother you to see Mopars with other power plants? I see AMCs with sbc engines allot and would not buy one unless it was cheap enough to go back Mopar. Sorry for no link not great at adding them yet.

  Not just Mopar either but any make needs to have a brand specific motor in it. Sure I know some Oldsmobile & Pontiac had SB chevy motors & Buick V6 & other factory combinations of bastards. If your building a "Hot Rod" to me it needs a motor from whatever brand the car is.

You can blow up two 355 Chevy's for every Mopar engine and still come out $ ahead, so it makes some sense if you can get over the breed loyalty. I think it's fine if makes other people happy. To me, that car would just be a project to put a 360 or 440 into, and sell the Chevy plant.

It's a tough call actually... I'll be honest, I've been thinking about building another car and it will be a Mopar - HOWEVER - it will literally cost me half the money to power it with a new LS motor and then the a new style HEMI. Not sure which way to go yet, but I'm just saying...

It really depends on what is being cross breed.... a 1969 Charger with a sbc... no, a 1908 American LaFrance car with a 46 liter BMW Airplane engine... yes please!

While I am strongly opposed to "hacking up" anything rare/historical... I think brand loyalty (much like fanaticism in sports) is a joke. The first hot rodders used whatever was cheapest, fastest, or most reliable (sometimes all of the above) to bring their imagination to reality. I like engine swaps. I'd prefer to stay with the same brand but I won't limit myself to it. If something else allows all the goals to be met (cost, speed, reliability, whatever) then I say go for it! If the factory never built what you dream of then how else are you supposed to make it happen?

Race cars are supposed to win. If the owner/mechanic has a formula to do that then that is what they should do. Now, if they lose every race it could be a sign of poor decision making skills.

Sometimes people use whatever they have to make something unique. I have some street rod friends who sit around and dream up combinations based on whatever cars are in the yard at the time. The amount of skill and knowledge it takes to create a one-off vehicle (not a cookie-cutter "kit") is mind boggling.

Besides, it's a 74 Duster - what else would you use it for? Once you gut and mangle it to make a race car does it really matter?

I totally agree... and you're right on track Troy. How awesome would a wicked little A-body be with a high revving, big power aluminum small block that puts out 600 hp. Stuff in the right suspension, wheels, tires and brakes and you'd have one wicked little performance car.

I'm not a fan of crossbreeding something rare and/or desirable or a numbers matching car, however on a nothing car...whynot?
I'd love to put a Hemi in a Chevelle just to do it for the shock value/reaction  .  The problem is, I can't afford to do it.  My dad and I talked about it years ago.  There is gobs of room under the hood.  The biggest issue is fabricating the engine mounts and making sure you get the proper pinion angle so it doesn't vibrate.  I know there is a way to mate the GM TH400 to a Chrysler block.

I would be a lot more willing to say "keep it original" if you could get the same stuff for Mopar that you can get for other brands.  Streetable aluminum smallblocks, cheap used overdrive auto trannies that bolt up to our big blocks, lightweight alloy steering boxes/racks, etc.

        Any time i see a car at a car show and the drive train is a different manufacture i just lose any respect for the car       shake my head and walk away  .

Us Mopar guys have always been the underdogs. The cool part of that is keeping it all Mopar and showing up the others.

Well, AMC used Chrysler & GM transmisions, Ford ignitions (I believe some Mopar too), and misc other multi car make things to built their cars. AMC even had a 327 for the Jeep Wagoneer's that I believe was built by GM. I'm not a 100% on that, so if someone knows for sure, let me know.
