It's been four years now since I was forced to sell my '68. I remember Mike (the guy who bought it) posting some pics of it here and there and learned he had hit hard times and sold it at auction.

I ran across it a short time later on e-bay being sold by Motoexcotica in St. Louis, Mo. Someone had apparently bought the car and *POOF* gone. The dealer wasn't giving up info on where it went and just recently I visited the dealers site.

What was strange though is that the dealer posts the sale price for every car but there was none on my old one. It makes me wonder if the dealer or employee actually may have kept it for themselves or something along those lines. I did express an interest on getting the car back some day from who ever ends up with it which is the main reason I wanted to keep track of it.

Perhaps it's just one of those old ghosts that need to be just let go. However, I have seen some cars surface over and over these past few years. Some belong to memebers here and others that seem to keep trading hands on e-bay and other auction sites. As for my old one... Nada - zip - zero. Just plain vanished.

I have to imagine that a new owner would have picked it up because it was unique or appealing. It wasn't anything too spectacular and I built it to my own liking. 6 pack hood, Daytona wing, Daytona fender scoops, and blue dot tail light centers. Otherwise it was all still a regular charger with a very well built motor. (thanks Peter!)

I think one of the reasons I wanted to keep track of it was because I originally built it with giving it to my Daughter some day so she would have something special made for her by Dad. It was the main reason I went as far as I did on the car in the first place. There was no way the car would ever retain the value of an RT, Daytona, Hemi, or other rare version and I knew it. It was a labor of love in more ways than one.

So... Could the dealer still have it? Could it be just sitting somewhere completely hidden from public view? Brought back to OEM?

Am I the only person ever obsessed with keeping track or searching for their old car?

Do you have the VIN number?    I think it can be tracked that way with DMV records.

Over the years, of all the cars, trucks, etc. I sold, the ONLY car I thought I'd want back was my Trans Am... Then I realized, selling the TA afforded me the chance to buy other stuff, so I'll settle for another one, someday....

It's my belief that once I sell a car that I have owned and become kind of known for, it is never really the other persons car. The car simply becomes "Oh that's so and so's old car right?"....No, once I sell a vehicle, I could care less what, where, or who has it, as long as I don't have to see it again and be reminded of how I let it go in the first place.

Under normal circumstances I would agree... However it was more of a forced sell and it's not about the money. It's about the particular car, and the build and intent in the end. One of these days when/if I do find it I have every intention to make good on a promise.

I understand why you are.   

I purchased a 72 Chally a few years back from a young Military boy (James) who wanted to get rid of it because he was going back to Iraq.  I tried to persuade him many times to keep it for him and his son, but he wanted nothing to do with the car.   I kind of reluctantly purchased it (it was a good deal) and told him to keep my number handy if he ever wanted it back.   

Well.... when I was building my 68 Charger, I ran into a money situation, and had to sell the Chally.  I knew it was a clean car, and boy was it.  A dealer purchased it in TX, did a restore, and has been selling it since.   I tried to make a deal with him cash and one of my cars, but he thinks the car is worth too much more.     He wants $35k.   I sold it to him for $11k.    I wanted to have this for my next project, and also my son(s) to work on it with me.  Plus, if James ever called me back, I would sell it to him for what I had into it.

I can appreciate that. When i was young and didn't have  to rub against each other in the same pocket, I didn't have anything TOO sell to get out of a bind... Thank the Lord above that now that if I did get into a position that I needed to sell something, I have enough "drivers" among other things I could sell that I should never have to be in the position you were in.

Once I sell something there is no desire to have it back,and by that,my 68 Coronet 440 I sold to Best of Show back in 08 is back on the block again right now,the new owner is selling it.He only added 1,500 miles or so on it.Had a couple E-mails back and forth,told me his reserve,which is $6k less than I sold it to Best of Show !!!!!!He is taking a huge loss,I have the chance to have it again,very nice car,liked it alot,had it for 10 years,but just  don't have the desire to have it back.Moving on to other cars.
Don't get me wrong,I can see where some did'nt want to sell their car,had to,then times change and if they have the chance to get it back,absolutely.
