Hi Guys, I'm wondering about my slip yoke.  The rear end  is a 8  3/4.   The  transmission is a 727.   The length of the driveshaft  is 52.07 inches.
I'm not sure if the 2 inches of the slip yoke showing (see picture) is too excessive.
Any ideas?  Am I worrying  for nothing?
Fred.

Looks like too much for me, i would be worried about that coming out. Has someone shortened your tailshaft.

No, no ones touched the tail shaft, it's what it should be (52.07 inches).

It is your transmission rear seal you don"t have the normal looking rubber one that protrudes out about 1/12 inches from the end of the box. plus your diff end normally has a dust type metal cover over the seal as per factory it is a part of the yoke. your one has been changed. That 2 inches should be fine.

You may have a driveshaft intended for use with a Dana 60, which is about 1-1/2" longer in the snout. If you have less than 1-1/2" spline engagement I'd get a new shaft.

The absence of a dust boot on the seal gives the illusion of too much yoke showing but it's most likely OK.

3 3/4" from the end of the housing to the center of the u-joint is the correct "at rest" position.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks Mate for the help. I will get onto that seal.
My car came with a pinnon yoke which had a metal dust cover on it but I had to up grade to hemi specs so I had to change to a 1350 series pinnon yoke.

Thanks for your help. My specs are..........the slip part of the yoke is 6 1/2 inches, the output shaft protrudes 1 inch out of the extension housing.
Which means the yoke engages 5 inches with the splines of the output shaft.
So I should be fine. Am I correct?

I worried for nothing John, I just measured mine and it's spot on (3 3/4") So thankyou very much for your help.
I'd already installed a bolt-in drive shaft loop because I was a bit concerned but now I can rest easy.
