Steering column collar ?

Is the steering column collar supposed to be free to rotate on console/floor shift cars?

It hasn't on any of the ones I've owned.

What stops or fixes it in place so it won't rotate?

Ive never seen one that isnt able to rotate. They just usually dont get turned it doesnt affect anything if they are turned.

Hmm, the 67 has to be different then because I just tried it on that car and it is definitely fixed in place.  I'm going to have to look at the 2nd gen on Monday.  I believe you, its just that I have never ever noticed they turn before.  Mind you I've never tried to turn them iether but if its lose you would think I owuld notice at some point.

just went to check my 68 & it DOES spin

can turn it about 1/2 a turn  , the inner tube turns with it too ,
