Need to replace my headers. 383 w/ 4-barral edlebrock and 383 torker intake manifold...mild cam.

What is your opinion on these?

What is your recommendation on the best bang for the buck?

Budnicks

That's a decent price for coated headers, I've had Hedmans in the past with good fit & wear, those headers shown in that photo aren't the actual headers...  I prefer TTI's for overall fit, looks & performance TTI383178c for chrome 1-7/8" I can't remember the #'s for the thermal coated headers, they are $691, they will fit with all options, even a rack & pinion conversion & Edelbrock Aluminum angle plug heads, & don't capture the starter or heat sink it...

well I go for good ones , TTi or Dougs , ceramic coated & insulated , cheap headers never save $$ , you either end up with fitment problems or gaskets blowing out or burned ign wires because there is not enough clearance , & often dents !!
Hedmans will not clear the mini starters , I have seen hookers where the flange is too tall leaving a gap at the top of the port sitting against the part of the head that angles outward for the valve cover .

i have TTI headers on both my chargers and they fit the best and they dont hang down like the rest of them.

Summit has flowtech ceramic coated full length headers for $275.95. I just got a pair, they look good and sound good. Best bang for the buck for sure.

I loved the fit of my Doug Headers.  Would I recommend them.  :rotz: For what they cost, I wish I would have bought a bare set. And had them coated at a shop near me. We put them on in June and they are being taken off. To be sent back under warrenty. I hope the next set doesn't end up looking like these.  :brickwall:

The Hedman Elites are a great deal in my opinion  :yesnod:
As Budnicks said however... those are not the actual headers in that image... see correct image below.

Thanks for all the great info! So...two headers in my price range...which do you think would fit best?

Flowtech - $276

Hedman's - $370

That is too bad about the headers. I guess there is only so much that can go into coating something metal...you would think it would last.

I don't have any huge expectations from low priced headers....as long as they function. I plan on pulling the engine in the next few years and doing a proper rebuild. Until then, I'm just updating a few items to keep it running smoothly. My current headers are rusted and have a few small holes in them near the block.

Hedmans, hands down... The Flowtech's may "look" similar but read the spec's, the Hedmans are made much stronger as are Doug's & TTI's, that's what your paying for...

Good deal. Thats probably what I will go with as Hedman's are 14 gauge and the Flowtechs are 18 gauge.

There is a footnote that mentions rotating brackets on frame and transmission. Does anyone have a picture of what this is referring to?:

"Footnote: It may be necessary to raise the automotive column cross shaft linkage by rotating the mounting brackets on frame and transmission 180 degrees."

Musicman

That footnote is for the Flowtech's and not the Hedman's

Ok good deal. I was thinking it was the case for both as the Hedman's site says "Modification to shift linkage may be required."   I didn't know if that was referring to the same thing and Summit's website just went into a bit more detail on the Flowtech description.
