68 Charger at Sema 2011

Hope you guys didnt miss this swedish Charger that was in the Meguiars crazy car show stand outside, he started it and revved it a couple of times, and he has a solenoid that changes the flow of the exhaust letting it straight out after the headers, the sound is pure love!

  Beautiful car but what is up with those big ass rims and rubberband tires?  Man that is not a good look on any car.  To each his own I guess.

Maybe the owner wants to be able to turn corners? You purists with stock width factory tires have your heads stuck in the sand. F 78 14 tires are horribly inadequate on a performance car. Sure, the sidewalls are shorter than what some prefer, but I doubt that the man intends to commute to work in it. It is a SHOW car that can be driven on the street.

I read an online article yesterday about the show and that black 68 was the cover photo for the article. Thought it was cool they used it instead of all the other photos of the cars they had.

Both would be extremes.  Nothing wrong with a 15" rim and a wider tire, if that's still not doing it for you taking a turn then 17" or 18" would be more than adequate.  If we are talking purely looks then the 14" are imo too small.  But they don't look nearly as ugly as those big ass things!  Again, this is my opinion, others will love the look and I guess the owner does as well so good for him!  I just don't like anything that big on any car.  Not a fan of the front either but I give the man points for painting it black, the body looks great!

I'm pretty sure that's the Arnold Welch car.  The story about his car is as follows:

I just noticed......I believe the Bullitt Charger should not have chrome exhaust tips if it was originally sold new in California....as claimed.  My understanding is that California cars did not have chrome exhaust tips (except for Hemi cars)......

Not true. My 68 R/T 440 was purchased new with the chrome tips.

Interesting.....In the Bullitt movie, the Charger looks to have chrome exhaust extensions, and it is claimed on the "Charger Survivor" website that the Charger's were bought by Bill Hickman in Southern California before the movie was filmed.

The Paul Herd '68-'71 Charger, Road Runner and Super Bee Restoration Guide claims that '68 Chargers sold in California did not come with chrome exhaust extensions....yet "36 Dodge Brothers" has a car bought in Northern California that he says came with the chrome exhaust extensions.....

There's a few comments in the Paul Herd guide that are incorrect......is this one of them?  Anybody know?  I'm just trying to do some detective work!
