What's up guys
Just put the silver down but I have a question
I see some charger with the lines in the grille painted the silver and I see some charger without
What was factory and is the all black a personal thing?
I like the all black look but what do you guys think??
Thanks

The tips on the vertical fins were factory correct painted argent silver.
But, your grille so do as you wish.

Definitely easier to add it later if you want it than go to the trouble of putting it on and deciding to remove it.

In '68, the front of the verticals are argent, or whatever they call it.  Bright silver looks terrible, and all black makes it disappear.  In '69, the verticals are black.

Having done a factory style repaint I have to disagree and say the opposite would be true. It's easier to do the silver fronts while the grill is disassembled and getting rid of it would be easier with it assembled. Unless you are confident and proficient with a small roller.

Not really. When I do them I spray the silver and mask each rib then spray black, followed up with semi flat clear.

With the exception of at least one 69.

I simply had a pin-striping guy paint them on by hand.

That's exactly how I did mine, except without the clear. Tedious, but the results were worth it.
Haven't tried the roller method yet, but I'm willing to experiment. For some reason I just think it will come out messy without defined lines.

Me too. At one point I decided I was going to do the roller method but figured with my luck I'd get to the third one from the end and screw it up.

Ya I do like the black but what my charger to be mean looking as well as some what orig
I know you can use a auto paint pin to do the lines and that would be a more easy and controlling way to do the lines
Some one should do a poll on this, all your guys replies are interesting

Hard Charger

the best way to paint the grille is to paint the entire grille argent then mask off the areas that will stay that color like the surrounds and the leading edge of the fins and then respray the open areas with trim black.

i used regular blue painters tape for the grille surround and auto body 1/8" detail tape for the fins. it really wasn't that difficult to mask off.(fins)

the results were perfect. better than the factory paint that they originally came with

PlainfieldCharger

I used the Ford Argent silver and bought 4 different silver Metallic paint pens. The Krylon pen matched perfect. Did the front of the fins on my kitchen table. I think it turned out great. It was very easy. Works great as a touch up pen too... :Twocents:

Back N Black

I think the silver makes the grill look too busy.  :Twocents:

plasticman-32

Ya that's what I think, the silver is nice but looks like aluminum or metal from far and in pictures looks like there's too much going on in the grille... Going to fall fling mopar show and swapmeet next week gunna really take a lot of pictures to see the quality of people's work and ask a lot of questions..
