good find  !! thanks for sharing      :2thumbs:  intresting stuff !!

not using  boddies in white then  :scratchchin:  have a video  highlights of a grand national race at  Ontario  , shows a red charger pulling into the pits just  for a split second , well its got what looks to be a vinyl top & stainless trim !!  side marker reflectors too  , think it might even had a flip top gas cap ( not 100% )) ,  although were gasing it up through the normal way  side filler cap  , reading this article has jogged my memory  , will take a screen picture & post it here later  :yesnod:

Cars in the middle/back of the pack in Grand National West and USAC were often home built like that Charger.  If you couldn't afford a Nichels or Holman-Moody car, you could still build your own.   Get yourself a junkyard Charger and copy some things from the factory cars as best you can.    If you had more money, you bought a well used factory car and rebodied it.    Guys who were at the top of their local short track level went these routes to get into the national touring series on a shoestring.

Below is a good example of a recycle job from 1970.    The #39 Coronet of Paul Feldner is said to be a 1964-65 Nichels car.   Look how strange the roof looks.   It's way high behind the driver because it has the old cage in it.   Paul updated it to a '70 Coronet for the 1972 USAC season .   I'm sure it raced more elsewhere when he sold it off.

yeah it makes sence  for the Private guy get a road going car cheap wrecked or something!!  was  just thinking only body's in white  used  from the   late 60 , as all what i have read over the years , from a number of different sources all points to body's in white were used one way or another  !

thanks for sharing the info & pictures !    intresting stuff ! :2thumbs: :popcrn:

here is the said chager ! i can't freeze frame it quick enough to get a front shot ! but its a 69 front end by the looks of it ! & i was mistaken about the flip top , its not there ! it don't show up on the digital picture but there is red oxide primer or something where the flip top was ! also you can just make out the side markers !! look like a 70 :scratchchin:
