More high buck cars in the rain.   These got all slopped up after a 60 mile ride to the track.

I wish now that I hadn't immediately edited my post, but I was trying to avoid touching off a firestorm about clones like i did a while back.

My comment simply asked if the line between a real daytona and a clone has gotten blurred over time. After recently looking through every post on this board, it seemed that nearly half of them were about clones, so there is obviously a huge interest in them. Rene commented that a clone is the only way most people will ever see a wing car on the street anymore, but in fact, they still haven't seen a wing car. I do get it, that the price of a real daytona makes one unobtainable for many, and with only 500 of them to go around, demand far exceeds supply. That is part of the allure of these cars for some people. It is certainly a driving force behind the desire to create a replica.

I've seen several comments on this forum about the cost of "creating" a daytona. People will throw $50,000, $75,000, and more into a clone. How is that not more unbelievable than someone bidding $45,000 for the real thing here? Granted, when this car is restored, it will have consumed more than double that amount of money, but which one makes more sense, at the end of the day?

Some people are happy with a mutt ,  and some people have to have the high dollar pedigree . . I have one of each but my purebreed one has lost all its paper work  ,like the daytona that just sold   :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big:  BTW i would gladly take this very highly optioned daytona even with its health problems  .
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

QuoteSo the lack of a fender tag is something of a non-issue

really,  .  the missing fender tag is a big issue if your gonna resell the car . a car with a fender tag is worth more then a car without one . any way you look at it . c-mon guys that's just the truth .  :slap:

I Like to have an original tag and paperwork - But......The Daytona's have a secret weapon most cars don't......the Shipping List....VIN and SO number, dealer etc. No where to hide, No excuses.

I've said it before, but some people simply can't afford to pay top dollar for a done car, so projects have there place. Even though they will most likely have much more in it than it's worth ( maybe )

And the clone debate will go on for years, BUT, they only real difference between the price of a clone and an original,,,,,,is the price of admission. Irregardless of the intended use - My parts are priced the same , the body man gets the same amount, the interior guy gets the same amount, etc etc etc

And again clones also have there place ( albeit a smaller place ) Some don't care about originallity part of of it, they simply want the mystique that goes along with them

Yeah, the "rich guy" who owns it was out driving it.

Im surprised at the bid but its not unbelievable. There are select few cars that I would pay more for than the next guy so maybe this Daytona is one of those cars that they just had to have.

:popcrn: interesting dynamics of values vs people desires over the years (not just Daytonas, 500s also), more so these last several yrs, in other words somehow a perceived value has a wider range to me it seems.  I do not recall this many "builders" or nice Daytona/500s finding the national market in a given year, compared to say 6yrs ago, 10yrs ago or in the 1990s.  So without some of the rare stuff, not far off the Y2 earlier this yr.          ( :pity:I think I like them all )
:Twocents:
So did this Y2 indeed sell at the 70ish?
It seemed like a good builder, Did a member here get it?

I usually don't comment on the technical knowledge you guys provide because I'm not that knowledgeable on these cars. Sure, smarter than most guys at any cruise night but feel stupid compared to most of you. I can though comment about this post being that I'm a guy that simply wanted a wing car. As some may remember, I bought the "project" from Musclecarfinders back in 2008. It was dumb luck that I found it and the only way I could get a "real" Daytona.  I thought maybe someday a decent project superbird because of production numbers, but never a daytona.  Even though most of the purists would consider my car junk, all I can say is it's real. I have no plans on selling it. I wanted one since I was 6 years old. Don't get me wrong, I saw Danes car and it was fantastic in my opinion and I can definitely see being much less paranoid driving that and possibly enjoying it more because of that than a real one. I just wanted a real one. I'm learing alot from you guys, searching for parts(frustrating at times) and enjoying the anticipation of driving it someday and isn't that what this is about.  I hope some time soon when my car is done that I'll be able to make it to a meet, drive it on a track and meet some of you.  Still hoping someone will be able to get me Murray Crows phone number or find my motor.  Finders fee can be provided!  Anybody have some used, beat up, bent but restorable z braces??

I had three deals with mr. Crowe... NEVER AGAIN!  In our dealings, I found him to be truth challenged... BE VERY CAREFUL!

mr. Crowe moved to another state many years ago, but I believe that I have located him for you... I will email some information to you shortly.  Don't be fooled by his awe-shucks good-ol-boy charm...

Have I mentioned...

:popcrn: :drool5: :drool5: :D    And I would drive one like that one all day long as is groomed bullet proof driver and love it.......

Part of what I find interesting also is the idea that some of these "rough" builders as parts cars, if I had only picked up one of those parts cars some years back. :slap:   I guess this car is an example of where the cars value w/ parts was not much more than the car w/no parts (and car people saga continues, not uncommon to cherry pick parts prior to selling within a cars life) :Twocents:

I have a Superbird but it just doesn't have the styling that the Daytona does.  So....I'm in the process of building a Daytona clone right now.  Unless the world comes apart, I will have a completed car for less than this project sold for.  With the advantage that if I get rear ended by somebody on their cell phone, T-boned by somebody putting on their makeup, or front ended by someone who "thought the light was still green", for a relative pittance I can be back on the road again and driving.  AND not risk ruining a piece of history in the process.

I didn't realize so many people had bad dealings with Murray Crowe.  I have a close personal friend that grew up around Vicksburg, Mississippi... not far from where Murray lived.  He knew Murray well and never said anything bad about him.  I do not know him personally but know many people that knew him.  In the 80's he had many hemi, 6pack, and other high end cars.  He had an orange '69 440 Daytona.  That car is now 3-4 miles from my house.  After hearing stories of all the cars he had, I've wanted to try and find him and see if he still had anything.
