So I just got back from putting my Charger up for the winter.   :'(   Less that 30 min after getting home I am already bumming that it will be close to 6 months before I will get to take her out again.

Glad that Brian (NHCharger) called me up and took me out for one last cruse 2 weekends ago...  Hope to return the favor and take him around central VT next spring.  :2thumbs:

Thanks Brian!

Hell, I'm bummed I'm not going to see your Charger for 6 months........ :-\

Nice ride!

you could have shipped it to me here in the south and I would have kept taking care of it and driving it for ya!!

that sucks though, I understanding the feeling of having one and not being able to ride it (one of the ones I've had was in the body shop for way longer than it should have been).

...I couldn't imagine putting a car away for the winter/6 mos.  :Twocents:

Charger_Dart

I live about 2 hours south of you, and have not put mine up yet. I just can't seem to bring myself to do it!
This weekend looks like it will be a nice sunny one, but kinda cool. I will definitely be out in the Charger for at least some driving time. I hate to put her away...  :drive:

I just arrived at work in mine.  Mornings are around 40-ish, afternoons between 50-60....and the heater control valve is on the workbench.....I think I might be in denial.

A few more weeks and mine will be gone as well, I don't think it would do well in the Michigan winters.  I may remove a few parts like cluster and steering wheel to restore over the winter, just don't know if I will actually have the time to work on them.

I probably could have kept running the car a bit longer but as I have to work around the schedule of the warehouse it was either 2 weeks ago or this weekend, well, yesterday anyhow. I caught up with the owner taking his GTO up last night and yesterday was more convenient than the weekend.

If I can get some of the existing house projects completed then I can start work on putting up a garage/shop that will store and provide work space for cars. Hope to get to that by the time my boys get to high school so I can begin the larger scale work on the car. (3-4 yrs)

It's funny that planning the resto sometimes takes more time and work than the actual resto.  :icon_smile_big:

I'll admit it, I'm in denial, it's cold and windy out there but I'm still flying around in the Charger.  The neighbors won't mind it's gone though as I'm leaving tire marks everywhere I go.

Like you and all of us up north-ish, it'll hurt me to store it but the anticipation of spring will be a good one!   :2thumbs:

It's almost time to put mine away too...but there's big plans. New engine, brakes, front end, etc. etc....kind of dreading it actually.

I may be able to get one or two more cruises in. We'll see how the weather goes...

mpdlawdog

Mine is staying out til it snows. We just had our one year anniversary together and I'm not ready to send her to hibernation yet!

Do you guys drain the tank, unhook the line and run it out of gas or put stabil in and leave it alone?

Nice car by the way!

Well, I did a bunch of searching for threads here on DC.com for pointers (just used the keyword winter) and found a vast and wide variety of stuff that folks do. I chose what I thought made the most sense.  :Twocents:

- put stabilizer in the tank and fill it
- put a bunch of bounce sheets in the cabin and trunk (I don't have any evidence to support that this isn't any thing more than snake oil but ill give it a shot)
- pull down the visors
- crack the windows to let it vent and put a bed sheet over the gaps. (I think I will get a car cover for next year)
- pull the battery and take it home to put on a tender.

Ill let you know how the experiment turns out.

I just picked up the NAPA brand that is formulated for ethanol in the gas. Got enough for 20 gal and dumped it in before I filled the tank.  In the past (vehicles other than the Charger) I have used Stabil but they didn't have the stuff for ethanol on the shelf. Not sure it makes much diff but the price wasn't any different either.

Not a good Idea. The first place you drove him to, you would leave him and not look back! Its easier to deal with the winter weather. Plus you don't want the Chuck curse on your car.  ;D

By the way nice car. Love the flag pic!

I was at the hardware store the other day and one of the women there told me that her husband uses irish spring bath soap cut into pieces and spread all around his cars and his car trailer, which is full of army surplus stuff at the moment. She claims it will actually get rid of mice if you have them.

Every year I use Sta-Bil brand in the Charger, mowers, weed wacker,  etc. They always start up with no problems after sitting.

I like to leave the traps on the floor next to the tires so i can catch them on their way into the car.  If the traps are in the car then i wonder if the smell of the peanut butter will draw them into the car to find it?..??

I found the little buggers putting maple seeds in the deck lid. Yep, they got into the trunk and would enter the deck lid at the latch hole and were filling up the little habitrail formed by the under structure that goes around the outside edge. I would lift the lid and hear the seeds tumble down to the bottom of the lid.   :RantExplode: :RantExplode: :RantExplode:

So I started trapping the car and nabbed a bunch. I also trapped up the rest of the barn. After thinning the herd they no longer were going into the car. Only getting them outside in the shop area.    :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:

My Duster sits outside right now. I put tire bags over the tires to protect them from weather damage, put Irish Spring bar soap on the floor boards, put a windshield sun reflector up and took the sunvisors out (it has some leak issues so I didn't want condensation to wreck them). It's going into dry heated storage before the snow comes though. Meanwhile the Charger is in my dry warm garage sleeping :)

Hey, had a great time cruising behind you admiring your ass
Since I putter on my cars during the winter I no longer winterize them. When I did I did what everyone else suggested plus putting the car on jack stands so i wouldn't flat spot the tires. I also bought some stuff made by OMC called storage fogger (you can buy it at most marine supply stores). I'd idle the car and spray this stuff down the carb. Was supposed to help coat the insides for the winter

Great pictures.  We talk about storage ever year.  And every year I do the same thing. Nothing.  I do start it every couple months but that's it.  I've had many muscle cars and never added additives or did anything with the tires.  I just run them for 10 minutes every couple months.  Since the ethanol issue and what I've read about it drying rubber parts or sticking valves I am gonna try to run the car in Dec Jan  Feb and March once for 10 mins.  That's how I do it here in Ct.  I do use it a little in Nov, like tomorrow I'll take it for a short cruise, just because I can.  :icon_smile_big:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Im pretty much the same way.  Once the first snowfall hits and there is salt on the roads, the charger is pretty much moth balled till there is a good rain to wash away all the salt in March or April.  Till then I get to work on any of the projects that I have put on my list to get done over the winter.  The only time it might see any movement is in and out of the garage and into the driveway to get work done.
