vin stampings

I have a 440 hp non original motor in my 69.  I know of the stamping on top of the motor , but is there somewhere on the motor with the entire vin of the car it came out of ?

Mine is an hp 440 2 e block if I remember correctly.  Thinking late 68.  Will try to get the rest of the numbers tonite .  Thanks for ur help.

  E 440  , its a  1969  motor   HP  high performance  motor ,  the 2 is built on the second shift 
 late 68 ,   more than likley its got the the whole vin stamped  on the passanger side of the block  on a machined pad above the oil pan rail !!  yellow arrow location in picture i posted !!

Some of the other stamping of the pad have to do with oversized/undersized bearings, etc.

Mine has got no numbers where the left arrow is. I will check the other place for numbers.
I bought the 440 HP2 from Craigslist about a year ago for $400.

whats the letter before the 440 on the top pad !! if there is no stamping where the yellow arrow is its prolly a 68 & earlier block !!  or if there is a machined pad in the location of the yellow arrow &  the pad is blank  , maybe a warrenty block or parts counter

Finally had the time to take a look at the numbers on the block. It says E440 on the top pad and 9C225852.

E is the year code for 1969, the partial VIN is from a '69 car built at the Jefferson (C) plant...in '69 the Jefferson plant built Chryslers and Imperials.

By the oil pan rail there should be a flat pad on the side with #'s also unless it's a replacement block maybe..

Yes. the TNT was optional on Newports, Newport Customs, 300 and New Yorkers.

Yes - TNT was what the HP440 was called in the Chryslers.....Like Magnum on the Dodge etc.

IF the vin on the side of the block is from the C plant AND the pad is stamped HP then yes.
Are you sure the VIN stamp is a C and not a G? Sometimes the stamps are light and you can miss the tail of the G. A "G" plant HP is more likely due to the larger number of Charger R/Ts, Coronet R/Ts and GTX's built at that plant compared to the number of Chryslers that came with the TNT.

You can get somewhat of a correlation between the engine assembly date on the pad and the VIN to help determine which plant the engine came from.

Well, I have a few years to go before I am ready to bolt in any kind of engine so plenty of time to think about it.

, i got a E series 440 in mine , came out of a 69 imperial , think the second digit is C also , will check later

So if the VIN on the block isn't the complete VIN but rather starts at (say in 69) the Engine id how can you be sure that there are not 2 engines with the same #s?

I.e. the stamping is Engine/Year/Plant/Sequence

So are we guaranteed that in a given year that 2 different cars from the same plant didn't get the same sequence number?  Since plants made more than one model were they given different ranges for sequence number?
