Why does a Holley constantly need to be tweeked?

I can get the idle smooth and just right. Then it seems like the seasons change and it is running rough again. Go and adjust the idle mixture screws, set curb idle and all is well, again, till the next season change. Is it me or is it Holley?  :scratchchin:

Not bustin' balls here, and I certainly hope this isn't taken offense to...

Holley's aren't Fuel injection that can compensate for altitude and weather changes. Most Holley's I've ever run needed periodic "Messaging" to help Drivability, but I took it with a grain of salt. Most of the Aftermarket Holley's I've seen come in the shop on "Hot Rods" were so rich at idle anyway, they never needed lean/rich changes as they ran "Fair" all the time. The Dominator (1050) I have on the Dart has been messed with about 5 times in 15 years. I too was told that carb was too much problem to drive on the street. Been fine. True, if you want a Carb to run "Correctly" all the time, you will need to make the adjustments that otherwise would be compensated for you with Fuel Injection.

The nice part is, the Holley allows you to make those endless corrections. ;)

mine doesnt , it runs great  and is a much better carb then a edlbrock

probably because they are more accurate , I had to adjust the mixtures slightly with 20* weather changes

I never have/had to Constantly adjust any of my Holley's.  I have 6 Mopars and they all have Holley's :scratchchin:

This happens a few times a year. Summers are over 100° and dry, right now we are mid 70's and dry. I had to re adjust the idle mix the other day. Seems like I just did it a few months ago, it was over 100° a few months ago too. I am picky with how it runs. A rough idle drives me nuts. Maybe others are not so picky, or dont even notice it idling rough.

I have the same problems it happens maybe twice in the season, I usally spray carb cleaner, it works sometimes but other times I have to take it apart and clean it and it works great again.

I've had to richen my EFI by 10-20% in places. The difference between 110* and 70* is a bunch, if your jetting is close.

when i had my sixpak it was probably WAY rich for the 383 but i ran it in colorado and missouri for a year straight and never had an issue until the starter bolts backed out

when i upped the cam i set it for missouri and it ran great, put it on a trailer to nevada and had to change the power valve when i got here to get it to run decent then went a whole year with no problems until the starter bolts again backed out

ps.  this eddy i have now has always driven me nuts with the electric choke not seeming to want to work right, loved the sixpak choke, set it and forget it!!!

I guess it's not just the Holley. Got the Harley out yesterday. 1993 Wide Glide, 1340. I haven't ridden it in a couple of months. It was idling rough, running poorly. Ended up leaning out the idle mixture and it cleared right up. Idling nice and running strong now. Last year the stock carb started gumming up. Took it off to clean it out and broke it.   :'(  So I put a Mikuni on it. I guess it will need seasonal adjustments as well.

I can't believe a car in Arizona would have issues like this. BTW, do you visit the PRO-Baseball teams training camps, or games.  My Neighbor's kid is in Surprise AZ, for the Royals. (Bubba Starling). :scratchchin:

Yes we do. I am about 10 minutes from the Surprise Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers spring training camps. Lots of fun when they are here. I am from Chicago, get to see some cheap Sox and Cubs games.
