Surf Charger

Saw a commercial on the Velocity channel for a show called Weeler Dealers. British show I am assuming but they come to the US and drive a '69 Dodge Charger. Show a few quick scenes but his face behind the wheel was priceless.

Comes on next Wednesday at 9pm EST on the Velocity channel.

Just an FYI

You mean for once they don't drive it off a cliff or into an oncoming train??  :D

Hah..I can't guarantee it as they only showed a few quick clips....     :icon_smile_cool:

I saw the preview and it should be a good show!  Thought I spied a 70' grill though? :scratchchin:

I believe Top Gear is the show which crashes more cars than Wheeler Dealer, but both are great shows!!   :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:

You are probably right! I saw the taillights and just assumed it was a '69.

There is some "show" being filmed today where you can "bid" on a 1969 Dodge Charger. I got the email and chalked it up to some less than "right" opportunity  :Twocents: I passed on that one... Bid to buy, like I care about TV time  :rotz: ...might be a different show than the one you mention  :shruggy:

Its a '70 Charger & they have been showing that preview for 3 weeks now...not sure exactly when that show will air but it is upcoming in this season.  I enjoy listening to the accents of Mike & Edd

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. Though I think it's the American version of Top Gear that trashes all the cars as I don't recall that being to often on the UK version.

It's either next week or the week after here on the NorthEast - CT, but since I haven't had power for a week   :brickwall:  I'll have to reprogram my TV to make sure it's recorded!!

Love Top Gear UK, and have grown to enjoy the American version.   they both have their fair share of crashing cars!   :popcrn: :2thumbs:

Either way after watching this youtube video....I now want my Charger to be a manual 4-speed!

2 Questions:

1.) Is this a basic Charger SE w/ a 383? (edit...I didn't originally hear him say 383 magnum so nevermind!)

2.) How hard would it be to convert automatic to a 4-speed? (I know theres tons of threads and it is possible...my charger was a column auto at one point and someone moved it to the floor with a shotty job of welding brackets. So it wouldn't bother me to do some fabrication)

I wonder if the guy who bought the car knows about DC.com?

I have been watching Wheeler Dealers for a while. The show is interesting. I used to do what they are doing. Buy "dodgy motors" make the repairs and "sell on for a profit", I mean "shift" them. Only thing is Ed is really a hack. But still fun to watch.

yes, if you have foxtel
it's on Turbo Max (discovery). Season 11 ep 1 they fix up a '70 charger in black. it's a  383 four speed.
they fixed the front bearings, gear linkage, power steering pump and rear shackles. and paid US$23,000
even though it's a 70, they go on about 'dukes of hazzard' and 'bullitt'  ::)

Thanks for that but I haven't got Foxtel............too much TV. I can't cope with all those channels.

Iron Chef

Watched it last night.  Was interesting.  They did what I would consider minor bolt on repairs: Headlight doors, PS pump, shift selector (the real name escapes me now), wheel bearings, spring hangers  and a general clean up.  I think the guy in the UK paid what would be around $40K US for it.

It must have been a plain ole' Charger that was ordered very highly optioned.  I saw a 383 Magnum, A/C, front discs and a 4 spd.

TXcharger70

I saw it last night. It is a 70 383 w/pistol grip shifter. I thought they paid $23k and sold it for 26k euro

Somehow I remember 20K Euro but I could be wrong.  The Euro is worth about a buck and a half $US, so 20K would equal around 31K US.  Looks like my math was off too!

never seen the show before, but i actually liked it. recorded it and watched it tonight. as in tv there is always some work up stuff, but the find of the charger (awesome 70) checking it out and test driving it, and doing some miner swaps of parts. that car looked great and sounded mean. they did make some talk about orange paint and a flag, but i really enjoyed the show. :2thumbs:

I too finally recorded and watched the episode! :2thumbs:  Really liked the find, but funny how they worked on the disc brakes and made no note that they were originally drum.  they definitely spent more time driving it and talking about it then showing the details of the car.  I also watched the Delorean episode and couldn't believe how much work they put into that!   :o   wish they showed more detail of the Charger but I'm sure they didn't realize the rust it had and wanted to stay away from it!

I was ready to buy a Delorean a few years ago and finally just gave up.  If you buy one that's in good condition you will still need to upgrade a lot to make it a reliable car.  The thing that got me was that after all that you still had a car that would likely lose a drag race to my Honda....

One day I'll find one with a busted engine and drop a Pontiac V8 in there as it was once intended.  Sweet ride though.

Camry smoked the Delorean on "The Car Show"

Yeah doesn't surprise me, it's a slug.  A good looking slug, but a slug nonetheless.

Should do well with a small block V8 though.  DMC also has a suspension kit to drop the nose, it looks ridiculous with the nose up.
