hi everyone , ive been looking at the posts here for a while & decided to put my fat fingers to work & finally say hello , not new to mopars . i tried resizing my pics but cant get them smaller than 370 kb , ill figure it out soon though , ive got a 70 rt charger in resto mode now , funds have been low so has been progress . its kinda an odd story how i got the car , im at work & spot a 68 coronet so naturally cars are more important than work soooo , i knock on the door guys says he is tired of people knocking but figures sinnce he has lost his sight & 1 kidney he could use a few xtra bucks , says the the coronet was his first car 318/ 904 runs good he'll take 3k , at that price my interest was lost so after 15 more minutes of talk im heading back to work & saying goodbuy he drops this bomb on me , oh i do have 3 more cars in the back but youll have to come back later if you have time so my wife can unlock the garage . so naturally i ask what ya got  , oh a 70 r/t charger its black now & apart but ive got all the pieces & it does run , its been painted a few times but it was that ugly pink from the factory , some im losing my mind at this point & then he says ive got a 70 440 six pack roadrunner post trak pac car fj5 original drivetrain gone but has fendertag & buildeet with a bunch of parts (my friend bought it) & the other one is a 70 satellite ragtop . pretty cool eh ? i finally got to be in the right place at the right time . after looking at the car it had the fendertag & buildsheet something didnt look right , i noticed some rivets on the radiator support , so afterwards i question him & he gets all defensive & admits the car was rebodied in the 80's because the car was clipped easy in the rear & he didnt like the the repair job so the front clip & doors & drivetrain were put on a 70 500 383 car . hers the really cool part , he tells me who did the work & im able to track him down & he has the original fm3 body in a field & trades it to me for a 70 dart 6 banger car , so now ive got 2 70 chargers (still no cash) sorry for the lack of paragraphs & hello to all from tulsa ok :)

finding the original shell was awesome , at first he didnt want to part with it but then changed his mind , its gonna need all the metal from the doors back with the exception of the frame rails , the floors are awesome as are the crossmember & front of car , im probably goona let my duster go to buy the metal , not sure yet . the 383 turns over just fine , but ive got the matching #s motor & trans , the only thing that didnt come with the car was the original air cleaner , he got really weird when i even mentioned it so i dropped the subject not wanting to miss out on the deal , i still cant believe ive got it , thanx for the welcoming comments to all

No doubt !!! Wished my C500 was that clean........

And, by the way.... All '70 440 4bbls and 6bbls had the heavy rods (of which over time, everyone incorrectly refers to them as "six pack" bottom). I was guilty as charged until I gained knowledge on the '70 & '71 model year.......

with the exception of intake, carb, and fuel pump, your engine is identical to a sixpack engine.

yeah it kills me to watch it sit out like that , its been outside in a field since 89 but its going to have to go through one more winter till i get some slab work done & swap places with the duster  , id like to put a dana under it just cause & a little more cam & maybe a sixpack but considering how few there were this color im thinking pure stock is ok . im still kinda in shock that i even have it . i think ill be able to pull it off for 25k . then ill still have the 70 500 body to mess with  :yesnod:

Having restored TWO FM3 70 Charger R/Ts...and a 500..... www.pantherpink.com
YOU really need to do that car back total stock factory...Very cool car.
Why was it parted out in the first place?..Looks dry and solid..and obviously all there prior.

70 RT 4BBL 4 speed 'before' resto....looks similar to yours.

im sorry Kori its too late , ive already mounted a coon tail on a 8' cb antenna , added some hijackers & am adding the rebel flag as i type via krylon  , yes definetly 100 percent stock to fender tag & buildsheet . The previous owner had been losing his sight & the car got clipped in the rear in the 80's , the bodyshop used  a partial 69 rear clip for the repair splicing it on about 1/2 way in the wheelwell area & the guy wasnt happy with the repair , its a shame because it would have been easier to have it done right the first time instead of switching the dash & core support & all the other pieces , i just cant believe i found the original shell & its quite workable. unless some major income changes occur im hoping to have it done in at least the next 5-7 years (10 most likely). Its funny i was just checking out your 70 dart in the mcc 2006 issue , very nice , they have always been a favorite of mine . In 08 i found a very clean 70(340 4spd fm3) almost as nice as yours for $9500 , but it might as well been 100k with everything tanking like it was. im so happy ive found the charger , its definetly a dream fulfilled . Thanx for everyones appreciation of the car , its nice to see it admired , i cant wait to get started on it . first order will be getting on a body cart & beginng disassembly, but before i do that i want to have all the new amd stuff on hand. im kinda bummed out , i had used the money i had saved to finish my 72 duster(340,sharktooth, scoops , etc) to buy the charger so i hit the reset button again , but the charger was just too good to pass on , once in a lifetime kinda thing.thanx to all , John in Tulsa Ok

By the way, in case you haven't decoded the fender tag yet, it looks like it's very well optioned:

440-4bbl auto, FM3 pink (obviously) with black vinyl top, black longitudinal strip, (sweet!), hood pins, and black interior.  Power brakes, woodgrain interior with console, bucket seats, left hand rearview mirror, A/C with heater, etc.

Good stuff there.
