Does it bother you to see a Dodge Charger cloned into a General Lee?

no. People can do what they want with their cars. It is only a paint job and some decals......reversible.

dont get me wrong i love to see a charger in its natural state......but i may have never known or fell in love with the charger if it werent for that orange clown car known as the general lee.

We get into these discussions on other forums as well...
Purists hate to see a 1958 Plymouth, 2dr hd top turned into yet another red and white "Christine".
They seem to hate to see another Charger turned into a General Lee as well.

IMO, if it weren't for these "Star cars", alot more of these cars would have been passed over for say the Bandit Trans Am, or the Torino. Being that "Bullitt", and DOH brought these cars into the light for many that wouldn't know one if they saw one [IE Younger Gen], I think the car belongs to who paid for it...The one with the cash has the last say period...All the b*tchin' and whining about how they shoulda/woulda/coulda ain't gonna mount to a hill-o-beans when the time comes to either shut up, or put up the cash to save every Charger out there. No, I think the General Lee is just as much a part of the Chargers history as the Hemi R/T is.

Start saving now, so that when you see all of the Chargers you DON'T like, you can buy them and rebuild them exactly the way you would.

Since you asked I will tell you my honest opinion, I don't like to see a "bunch of Copies or Clones of the General Lee, especially if they aren't an accurate representation",  but now that I said that,  "I do like" seeing the "original cars that are actually from the show or production", they are a real piece of history... "I don't really care what people do with their own cars",  I just wouldn't do it to mine, "unless it was a real General Lee from the show with documentation of course".... To each their own....

I'm a gigantic GL fan and even I think there are too many replicas out there today.


But hey, whatever makes people spend $30K fixing up a '69 Charger to a decent near-stock condition.

Even if you absolutely hate it when someone makes a GL, if you were out mowing your front lawn and saw one roll by on the street you'd stop and stare at it wouldn't you? Its still a beautiful car

I generally do not post a lot, and I agree, this subject has been  many times - my thoughts - I love the GL, and chargers period - I think what gives the tribute cars a bad name is the poor quality of many (not all) of them we see. I agree, if you are going to do one, build it correct (though there is no "standard" to the general, but there are things that make it what it is..) - I cannot stand going up to one, and the paint looks decent, wheels are correct, and the interior looks as if it has not been touched, etc, etc, etc... that being said, I am in the process of building one, which I will not say the amount that will be tied up in it due to possibility of needing a lawyer, but if I get tired of it being a general, I remove the push bar, paint the roof and doors, (or entire car) and still have a top notch restored piece of true american muscle car history.

There are more NON GL cars than there are GL. So, why not. Wasnt for the movie, the Charger would not be AS recognized today. But then again, I like numbers on doors, it gives it the NASCAR look and Orange suits the car... so maybe leave the front bar off and the flag off and you got a nice orange NASCAR style charger?

Im building a General and it will be a excellent example of the car. I do think there are to many poor replicas out there that people just throw together just to say they have one. There are not to many like mine that has a lot of time and detailing done to it.

I'm all for doing what you want to your car. It's a bit much when you go to a major car show and see a field full of them, but that being said locally I've never seen one at a cruize night around here.

As long as a '69 is used and they don't blow the horn every 5 seconds, I am cool with the GL.
