I have a NOS Charger 500 grille emblem and was wondering what it's worth? I had been saving it for the "500" I hope to buy someday. Debating on selling it, but not sure what it's worth in today's market. Any ideas?

Thanks !

What is the part number and what condition is the plating/finish?  Got a clear pic of it?

Well, not really looking for anything at the moment. Could use a nice 4-spd console top plate and trim setup. Not interested in repro, would need to be super nice original.

Well, it's in my secret hiding place, so I'll have to dig it out, take a pic and verify the p/n. Can probably do it this weekend. However, if memory serves me correct, the pins do not look like what you have pictured. They are longer and I believe hollow on the end. So, maybe it's not NOS, or even correct.

I got it many years ago from the New Product development department at Year One. The guy that I got it from said it was used as a sample to compare against the prototype repro part.

If its got hollow pins it sounds like a grill emblem for a 70 500.

A34

So, the part number on it is - 2901811. I think these hollow pins are covers to protect the  other pins as they look like they slide on.

just bought a "NOS 69-500" this last month, paid $60-65, was concerned if it was right for that price, what showed is a nice old 70 piece with short studs... not right, clearly to much as it is worth $0 to me as a 70, heading towards screwed to tool box...  Did buy an NOS 69 back RT in box also, believe it is indeed old pcs, was quite a bid more.  Still looking for more NOS stuff myself :pity:.

You might try mounting the emblem to a sheet of paper, light cardboard, or styrofoam and scanning it in like I did on the first two images below.  The backside pic that you posted looks more "NOS" than then the frontal pics.   It MIGHT be a NOS part that was polished to remove shelf wear prior to making a mold off of it...  :shruggy:  The third pic below shows the backsides of the repros.  The fourth pic shows a known NOS, a close-up of the "5" and the backside...

At this point I cannot be certain what its origin is... anyone else care to chime in with their thoughts?  :popcrn:

The originals appear to have a flat or slightly concave finish to the numbers.    At least that is what I see.

So as usual, the repros arent exact??

I have not had a chance to take any more pics of mine, but I think it's the real deal. I do appreciate all the pics posted of repro's, so I could  compare.  :2thumbs:

In my personal experience, very few repro's come close to  being exact. One of the main problems with emblems is the material they make them out of is soft and they "sag" after awhile on the car.  I'd much rather try and recondition (Or buy NOS) an old emblem than buy a repro if it were for a nice show car and not a driver.

:shruggy:  No need to do all that... pin length and retention method are completely different, a quick glance behind the grille or in the trunk will tell.  Bonding on phony pins and nuts after installing the later emblem with small screws might make it seem legit.

ONE MILLLLLLION DOLLARS!

I know I am going to come off as a real pisser here - but it ain't worth nothing until you have a buyer.    If you want to sell it, just list it on Craigslist or Ebay and be done with it.  Whatever its worth, is what someone will actually pay you for it.    What you might imagine its worth and what it's actually worth are two different things.   Anybody that gives you a price on here is just blowing smoke - UNLESS they are saying that's what THEY will pay you for it.

So back to my original point - it's worth ONE MILLLLLION DOLLARS  to the guy who has a million dollars to spend and a charger that is incomplete without it.  All you've got to do is find that person.

Good Luck.

This subject has come up again, a legit NOS 2901811 is coming up for sale... any chance of narrowing the $0 to $1000000 value estimate...?   I guess my WAG would be $150 in absolutely MINT condition with NO shelf-wear, $125 with minimal shelf-wear, $100 with moderate shelf-wear (but not noticeable at 3+ feet)...

Over the last 6 years, I bought seven "NOS" P/N 2901811 emblems, four of them turning out to actually be NOS and a set of three imposters... well done reproductions, complete with the P/N and Pentastar.   None of the four NOS were flawless, but one was near flawless and a bargain at $45... two others had minor shelfwear, but were quite presentable... while the last had moderate shelfwear and slight finish delamination.  Prices paid ranged from $45 to $85, and the three imposters were $185 for the three...

Something like this is about as hard to value as they come.

Selling to a small group of needy is the main obstacle.

I've been looking for a rear deck lid RT emblem for a 69 coronet for years. I am sure they are out there and for a reasonable price but I need to check every day in all the right places to have a chance. Mean while what I want sits on a rotting car or in a box of stuff somewhere.

So this gets back to what is it worth.   To me ??  A NOS part may pull $100 from my cringing fist. But until a deal is made what I need doesn't enrich the one that has one for sale.

On the other hand if the 500 emblem we are talking about were to be selling for many hundreds of dollars I would be tempted to take the one off my car and replace it with a repo. just for security reasons.

odcics2

Suppose a guy had a new Charger 500 emblem in a shoe box for 45 years.

Suppose he charged you .50 cents a month to store it.... so then you could put it on your car in 2014.

That comes to $270. and we haven't even gotten to the price of the part itself!!

Puts it all into perspective when looking for NOS parts.

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Ghoste

What if he stole it off the asembly line and I charged him .50 a month not to rat him out?   :D

(I like my version better)

Allen, would you be willing to part with one of the ones you have purchased? I just need one that is presentable to replace to broken one that has been tied on to my grille for the past 6 years with fishing line.

Sure Danny, I'll dig out the emblems as soon as I have a chance to.... Are you interested in a Repro w/P/N & Pentastar (the ones claimed to be NOS by the eBay seller I purchased them from), or a shelf worn NOS (probably the one with slight delamination)?  I also have several NOS ones from other model years that would look correct when installed...

Sort of.  The grille itself is the same but the trim around it makes it look different.  The emblem on the front is just placed over top of the grille and so forth, when you remove all of the trim and just see it sitting there it becomes the grille you are accustomed to seeing.
