Post your funniest, strangest, best, bizarre story you've got from going to look (or when you called) on a Dodge Charger for sale...

My bro was well to do at the time and wanted a Challenger, I put word out and a friend told me of one behind a shop for sale. I went looking for it and it turned out to be my Charger I bought, not a Challenger! A few weeks later I found a Challenger convertible in fair condition for 3500.00, (16 years ago, 318 car.) it didn't have A/C so my bro passed on even looking at it. (Triple white too.) He's still kicking himself over that missed opportunity.

Not the funniest, but my most 'pissed off' charger story..... (long)

The first Charger I almost bought was back around 1997/98. I live in Northwest Alabama and the car was near Nashville, about a 2 hr. drive away. I first seen the ad in a classified paper from TN, it read "69 charger, 318, auto, needs timing chain $3500". The paper was a couple of weeks old, so I went across the stateline and bought a new paper, to see if it was still listed. It was only this time price was lowered to $2800. I call the guy, says he still has the car, so the next day my Dad and I made the 2 hour trip to take a look at it. We arrived at his house and he met me at the door of my car, says he needs money! Says his girl friend is pregnant, and he needs to sell this car to get some $$$$$, he told me he'd take 2 grand for it...before I even looked at it. He showed me the car, and it was almost complete (missing front buckets and both 1/4 glass) but the car was solid and in great shape (incase your wondering, it was painted like 'General Lee', actually pretty nice paint job). After all was said and done he lowered the price down to $1800 and I had to leave to head back home (worked night shift at the time). I got home I called a local guy to price going to pick it up for me. He said he would charge a dollar a mile and he couldn't go get it until Saturday (this was on a Thursday). After getting off the phone with him, I called the guy with the Charger back...before I even said anything, he repeated how bad he needed the money and he was willing to take $1400 for the car. I said I would take it but it will be Saturday before I can come and get it. I could not sleep those next to nights!

Well Saturday came and I met with the roll-back owner at 6 a.m. and we take off to Nashville. When we arrive at the house, the Charger was gone. I felt sick at my stomach and furious! I get out and pound on the door, and this real old guy comes to the door. I ask him what happened to the Orange Charger sitting in the driveway, he replies "two guys loaded it on a trailer about 10 o'clock last night". Well I head back home empty handed and disappointed, and still had to pay the roll-back owner $147 bucks for a round trip to Nashville. Two days later the owner called me and told me what happened (and I think he was telling me the truth, why else would he call me?) He explainded to me him and his girlfriend went to Kentucky (where his Dad lived) to get the title to the car. Before leaving he and his Mom got into and argument, because she wanted half the money from the sale. After leaving to get the title, she supposedly sold it to a scraper for $1000!
The part that sucks is I live in Alabama, I didn't even need the title anyways.

Thats my luck though, day late or a dollar short, LOL

My story isn't that far from normal, but here it is.
In March of 2000 I decided that I was ready to jump in. I'd already owned a few Mopars over the years but I wanted a Charger. There was no Craigslist and eBay wasn't a big deal yet, so for me it was a matter of looking in the paper or Auto Trader magazine. I picked up the paper that day and saw an ad: 1970 Charger 500, V8 AT PS AC new tires, $2500 and the phone number was local. I called but got no answer, so I left a message. 3 days went by and NO callback. I had really wanted a '69 so missing out on the '70 didn't bother me. By day 4 the ad had changed, now the car was $2100. I called again and the guy answered. He was out of town and due back in 2 days, so I had to wait.
The day I went to see the car, the owner was hung over drunk from the night before. Lucky for me he was in no condition to turn down my $1700 offer! SCORE! The build of the CLONE R/T shall begin......

In the summer of 1974 I saw a 1968 Charger at a gasoline station with a For Sale sign on the side glass so I stopped.  The guy who owned it wanted $300.00 for it.  He said mechanically the car was perfect but the body needed lots of work.  It was light yellow in color with a green vinyl top and green upholstery and tinted windows.  It was a 383 4V auto with A/C and steel "mag" wheels.  It looked like someone had shot the right side of the car numerous times with a BB gun several years before as the car had a number of silver dollar size rust spots on the passenger door and right quarter panel.  there was also some rust behind both rear wheels.  I always liked the styling of the 1968-69 Chargers so I bought it.  I had previously restored a 1931 Model A Ford and a 1948 Ford coupe so I knew the body work would be a snap.  I started on the body work on Wednesday and by Saturday I had painted the car a 1971 Chrysler dark green poly.  It was absolutely a traffic stopper.  I detailed the engine, upholstery and interior, the trunk, then I cleaned the vinyl top and sealed it.  On Monday I parked it in my driveway to allow the paint to cure in the sunshine.  A buddy stopped by that evening and offered me $1800.00 for it!  It was his two days later.  Two weeks later he totally demolished it.  >:(
