Hey fellas,
I've not been on this forum in quite a while since selling my '69 but have returned to tap into the vast knowledge that lies within.  I've run across a car I'm going to look at next week and am trying to get a feel for it's worth.  I realize it's tough without pics, but a rough range will do until I can put an eyeball on it.  From what I gather it's a '70 R/T 440-4bbl, 4spd, numbers matching with the dana still under it.  The car hasn't been started in 15 years, but ran when parked.  The interior is there, but it's been sitting in the grass, so I'd assume the trunk pan, floor(s) and lower quarters are shot.  So as to not totally pee in my cornflakes, let's assume the framerails are okay.  Best guess ?   :scratchchin:

:shruggy: So hard to guess without seeing it or knowing more?  Engine rebuild etc... 15kish?  Give or take 10k
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Without knowing for sure what the metal looks like I can't even come up with a guess.

I know what I sold mine for back in '04.

Best case, just on what you said... $7k-$8k

Less, if even worse than I am imagining...

Seller probably wants twice that, right?? :Twocents:

We really haven't discussed price yet.  This is one of those deals where the guy held onto it for years and now has decided to let it go.  I know one guy tried lowballing him and he said he'd scrap it first, but I don't know yet how low low was.  I figure the motor is stuck and the sheetmetal will (as always) be worse than first thought, but as of right now, this is all I have to go on.  Let me ask you guys this:  Seeing as how it might be easier to work backwards, what is a realistic price point to sell this car for completely restored ?

1970Moparmann

Depends on a lot of aspects....   Based on the lack of info - $7 - 8k.

Numbers matching?
All pieces present?
Metal needed to replace?
How much rot?
Frame rails?
Color?
Condition of glass?
on and on and on....

2 broadcast sheets, all #'s matching, the only metal replaced was one area along the bottom window channel the size of a fitty cent piece.  In '04 I got $49k.

It was flipped a few times & ended up with a classic car dealer in Arizona.  They had it advertised for $80k & sold it w/in a month.

Charger-Bodie

Thats such a sharp Charger Mike. Love that thing!
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior

I just baught a 69 rt 440 6 pack (not original 6 pack) driver with a truck load of extra parts for $12,000. Body needs left rear quarter, tail panel, and rear valance, but came with valance. Interior is decent but its missing the console and shifter (has b&m).

Let's ballpark it at 10 grand, unless it's been sitting outside or the underside is really rough.  Of course, pics would help.

Sadly, it has been outside.  I've only seen the car from the street , so the only info I have is what I have posted.  I deal mainly in '68 Plymouths and am well aware of the pitfalls of rotten frame rails and crusty crossmembers.  With the way the market is today, I wasn't sure where to peg these cars and you guys have been a big help.  I'll have an update after I've checked it out next week.

Thanks.  :2thumbs:

Mike - That car had eyeballs!

Nice   :2thumbs:

Thanks guys'.

The only reason I don't regret selling it is at the time I couldn't even engage the clutch to start it.

What did the dog say when he stepped on the sandpaper ?

Rough.

Which about describes this car.  It is a true R/T.  It does still have the dana and the matching #'s 4 spd trans, but curiously, I couldn't find the pad on the side of block with vin # on it, down by the oil pan rail.  Between the grease and the headers, I had limited access to view the casting numbers to see if it was an earlier block, which might account for the missing pad.  I should have checked the pad up top, but got distracted.

The frame rails were in good shape and even the floorpan was decent, needing only a small patch near the gas pedal.  The rest of the car however.....

Let's just say there's not a piece of sheetmetal unscathed.  Rust had ravaged what you would expect ie. around the rear window, lower quarters etc.  But the tops of the quarters were shot as well as the trunk gutters, rockers, doors, fenders, hood, decklid, trunk pan...you get the idea.  Coupled with some of the missing parts (shift handle, air cleaner, exhaust manifolds etc.)  it's quite an undertaking.  I hope it doesn't get parted out, because I believe it can be saved, but someone with $$ and fortitude is going to have to do it.  I made him an offer and he said he'd get back to me, but for now he's feeling out his other prospects.  I don't blame the guy for trying to get all he can, I just hope some wide eyed kid who always wanted a '70 doesn't blow everything he's got on this car 'cause it'll bankrupt him.

What was your offer vs. what he wanted for it?  :popcrn:

All that & you didn't even take us any pictures?

How about the fender tag?  Did you at least photo that for Registry purposes'?   ;)

I offered him 3k for it but he wouldn't give me a counter offer, just that he'd think about it.  I admit it's probably on the low end, but I wanted to leave myself some room and truth be told, the uncertain parentage of the motor kept my bid down.  Someone with a bunch of Charger parts lying around might certainly see more value in the car, but I'd be starting from scratch as I cleared all that stuff out after selling my '69.

Sorry, no pics.  The fender tag was missing, which is another detractor.

Kudos to you for being smart enough not to get starry eyed when you seen the Dana.

Was it a console or ?, ?.  What were the original colors?  Was it a hood black out car?

5wndwcpe

It does have a console (with the rare multiple toggle switch option), black interior, burnt orange exterior with what I think was a black vinyl top at one time, no hood blackout.
