To me, a pair of $70 R/T emblems DO NOT add any value - in fact, most of these cars no longer have their orig. engines. To me, that further diminishes values...

Cool cars? Of course... Worth more, Nope

After further thought, my answer remains.... NO!  :Twocents:

My car is better than an R/T.  Better brakes, engine, some electronics, after market suspension parts, ect.  ect.    :nana:

Going from my car now to a R/T would be a performance downgrade.
However, a R/T is a factory performance package and therefore worth more even though it is outdated old technology.    To me, the car itself (body style and look)  is more important then what performance package it came with.  It's the look that I fell in love with, not the 40+ year old sub par performance technology.  Sorry guys, not trying to start anything.   I do agree rt's are worth more, JUST NOT TO ME.

Now if the rt was a hemi or Daytona or six pack or even a 4sp car then it would be worth more to me even if it was a lower performer than my car.

Maybe if rt's were more rare (under 1000 or even under 10,000) I might get caught up in the rt craze.

I'm kinda with Skip on this one.  The second generation Chargers are just plain beautiful.  Now combine upgrades that are available today and you can have the best of both worlds.  My car  is a R/T clone and it is faster, handles better and stops better than any stock R/T ever could.  Wanna race Skip??  Bob

Thats basically what Im saying If take a less desirable platform you can build it the way that YOU want to. I personally just like the R/T emblems better than the other one.

Look, the muscle car era was a uniquely "over the top" US thing that we can all be proud of. Those Badged/Specialty cars were the genesis of the era, they were what ushered in the era, the...... R/T's, GTX's, Cudas, AAR's, T/A's, Road Runners, Super Bees, dare I say Daytonas, '69 500's & Superbirds.

They were in large part that visceral/emotional element that allowed it happen, so hell yea......they matter and that's why they're worth more.

Charger-Bodie

The original R/t etc. are worth more and should be .... What I was having a problem with was the additude that cloning a car to your own likeing is a sin of some kind.

Well put.  I was just explaining the exact same thing to my daughter this morning of an era gone by.  To me when I see a XS car, original motor or not, I flash right back to seeing it sitting on the showroom floor and all the memories of wanting one back then, and spinning tires and loud rumbles.   XP cars are nice but XS cars are the real Mc Coy to me and I would pay more for one.
Had mine out this morning.  :2thumbs:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

The only clones I have a problem with are those "in badge only". To me the R/T badge should be faithful or close to it's original conception.

I definitely agree with that.

Sometime it just out of the blue, pops into my head that I own the car and it makes me smile. They are awesome cars.......
[/quote]
Yep, even better when you truly own it and don't owe a cent!

I see two sides to this debate:
Generally the owners of real R/Ts will go with the "authentic is best" stance, whereas clone owners are likely to be of the opinion that a well done clone doesn't need an S in the VIN to make it special.
That's fine. We like to defend what we have or what we can afford.

Myself? Given the option of two project cars now, one an R/T and one not but both in need of a similar resto, I'd pay more for the R/T for sure. Like was mentioned before, it costs pretty much the same to restore a non R/T car so next time I think I'd splash out for the real deal.
Gotta love a '69

That was me this morning.  I took a run to Home Depot and of course parked the car far away and alone.  I left all the windows down which to me really high light the body lines.  Point being as I was walking to it and the sun was beaming on the orange, I just went, WOW!  How beautiful is this car? , Wow.

Yea!! That's it! That's exactly how I feel getting back to my Charger. You have to park it out there but then you get to walk back up to it.

Yea baby!

A well done charger clone is exact in every way of the original R/T. What it boils down to is, how much extra do you want to pay for a VIN tag.

The70RT

Didn't really matter to me at the time. I just happen to have a chance to get one 32  years ago and it was an RT. I was more worried about how I was gonna come up with a grand real quick. I ended up getting a loan and had to come up with 38 bucks a month for 2-1/2 years.  :-\

Boy you can say that again. I love driving it but I don't get to see and admire it as other people  who see it on the road do. But sometimes on those rare occssions that I do park it off by itself somewhere................well, walking back to it and seeing those lines and how she gleams does more than just put a smile on my face........it sends me into orbit!!
