For some reason I found myself looking at a lot of 3rd gen pics tonight and I kept going back to the hideaway headlights.  I think they look so good on the front of those cars they should have remained a standard feature through 1974 but maybe 3rd gen afficianado's feel differently.

as far as the third gens go, 73-74s had the best bodies to me...put the hideaway headlights in and maybe change the tail-lights too and you have the best of the 3rd gen (specially with a bulge hood!).

I came here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, but I'm all out of bubble gum.

I still don't understand why some have headlight doors and some don't. Was it an option you had to order or what?

If I had kept the WannaBee it would have gotten 71-72 RT tail lights and then hideaway headlights :2thumbs:

OK on the 71/72.  NOt for the 73/74

Don't like the look of a 73/74 with 71/72 grills or taillights...

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,

With the bumper fillers removed, bumbers brought in and colore keyed bumpers, both options look fantastic :Twocents:

i like them both ways being a little different just as the bumpers and tail lights between the 68-70 chargers. the only thing i really hate is those awful semi trailer rubber bumperettes bolted the the 73-74 charger. :shruggy:

I do not find them to have the best body style.  I'm out.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

We done had the best body style poll.......second gens won. The only reason third gens look better with hidden headlights is they look closer to a second gen.  :shruggy:...... :D

Ha.  I wanna know who rigged the pole to show 68 won over 69?  How the hell is that possible?  :shruggy:   Just makes no sense.  :eek2:
I love any car with hideaways. I wish the new Camaro had them.

Like em so much there going on my 73!

But like 71's more as they dont have as many vertical fins and it looks better.

Tilar

I like them and they don't look bad on a 73 either.   :whistling:

Agreed!

about hideaways... dunno, Since I like the 73/74s the way they are including tail lights ( wich are my favs of the 3rd gens ), I think wouldn't modify the look.

I'm not really sure if I like the 3rd gens hideaways as I like on earliers. If I have to choose to put some on my 74, would try to get 71 style, not 72, but Not sure If I would put them.

Poorly-worded poll. They were never "standard" except on the SE. I'm sure they were probably dropped to simplify production. While I love my '71, I agree the '73/'74 body lines, especially the roof on the non-SE cars were sleeker.

As a youngster I had a 72 Se with hide aways. I think all 3rd gens look better with them. but not as good as my 1st gen I have now. Just my  :Twocents:
