Nowhere near as nice of a car as the barn find 1969, this one looks to be a good car - but a "Survivor"?  :scratchchin:

Interestingly enough, the trunk supposedly has rust and as detailed as the pictures, we don't get to see it  :popcrn: What else are we missing?

Let's see if it actually sells... It's only been on eBay for the past few mos.  :Twocents:

The ad said "rust under the mat". Looks very nice, but survivor no, unmolested yes.

Red outside, gold inside, black engine bay = "unmolested"?  :shruggy:

I'd say it fits neither definition, but maybe still a decent car. Nice paint. The fender tag sure is rusty.

Really makes me wonder what's under all that shinny, new paint...  :rotz:

XS29L9Bxxxxxx

For "only one repaint" I am thinking it is BULL!!! Here's why...

Take a look at the pic from the Barn Find 1969 Dodge Charger and look at the differences - BOTH Chargers are 1969 cars and BOTH are T7 Bronze cars w/ tan interiors...

Interesting the way the orange Charger has such darker wheel well paint applied. Why?  :popcrn:

...I think it was repainted MORE than once  :yesnod:

And compare...

I was referring to the driveline as unmolested - unless he's hiding something there.  The original aesthetics (paint) didn't survive the molestation delivered on it. I agree.

He doesnt go into any detail on drive train. Machine Gun Kelly used the air cleaner for target practice. The mismatched colors on the dash tell me somebody has gone through that too.

Definitely not unmolested or a survivor, but it looks like a pretty solid car all in all. Hard to find non-rusted cars that have not been fully restored any more.

If a 2nd gen Charger still has its original floor jack it is a survivor.

Something like this maybe.......... crusty.

Could say nice old original car with repaint   (to resell red)?  The whole repaint takes the survivor out of the discussion to me   :Twocents:    I'd drive it.

So my car here is a survivor then?   :rotz: it HAS been molested  :smilielol: :smilielol:  :shruggy:   :scratchchin:

XS29L9Bxxxxxx

That's just it, who knows...

Seller has no paperwork or pics of car. And was already painted when they got it...

Still, those wheelwrlls have T7 paint. The barn find Charger has paint consistent with the interior (T3?) for tan doors and trim?

I bet it was repaimtrd more than once... And a Chevy guy painted the engine bay...

Orange_Crush

In Mopar parlance, a car has to meet a VERY specific set of requirements in order to be considered a "survivor."  First among those requirements is NO REPAINTS!!!!

To put it simply, survivor is a car that is (with the exception of standard wear and tear/maintenance items such as tires, wires, hoses, cap, points, etc) EXACTLY as it was when it was driven off the lot.

Trunk rust could still qualify it as a survivor as would faded paint and minor dents or dings.

Black engine bay and one repaint mean the car is NOT a survivor...unless you are into corvettes.  The corvette guys call it a survivor if it still has one original lug nut.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

Orange_Crush

I'm being sarcastic...but they are not as tight as Mopar standards.

From the Bloomington Gold website:

The car has to meet only THREE of these criteria:

-Is over 20 years old.
-Can pass a road test over 20 miles
-Remains over 50% unrestored, un-refinished, or unaltered.
-Retains finishes good enough to use as a color guide for restoration of a car just like it.

Officially, for Mopars, the car has to be 85% original unmolested.  Unoficially, the Mopar guys won't call it a survivor unless the originall grease is still on the axle bearings (okay, exaggerating again, but the unofficial criteria are a lot more stringent).

:iagree:  x2.

Very decent car, but not a survivor by today's definition.

This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

If somebody even thinks they can claim survivor status, they will.  See it WAY too much.

Winning bid = $21,200  :o For a repainted XP29 car :shruggy:

What did that 69 RT sell for again last year? The barn find w/ original paint, etc? Mid 20s??  :Twocents:

And we thought a flipper would actually know what a "Survivor" is how? And he/she stretched the truth? Oh the horror!

Makes me feel good about my recent purchase that's for sure! I never can understand prices on ebay.  :shruggy: :scratchchin: I bet it has more to do with someone being local that wants it.

I don't, either... So much junk shows up on eBay  :popcrn:

That orange (reddish?) XP29 car is a lot of money at $21,200 for what it is... It had a lot of unexplained rust and was a recent purchase by the seller (flipper??)

Again, compared to the Bronze XS29 Barn Find which sold for just a little more, the Barn Find car was an amazing find - and surprised it didn't sell for more. Especially given its originality. Something that could no longer be said about that reddish / orange "Survivor"  :Twocents:

RallyeMike

I'm not surprised it hit $21k. Car sellers have known this fact for a long time: A paint job sells the car. .

A buyer takes a gamble on a car like this. Sure the paint looks nice on the outside, but the lack of painted trunk and engine compartment hints that someone didnt have the funds to paint the car right. So, what's under all that pretty gloss?  Hopefully the body work was done right and seller isnt getting screwed.

Maybe whoever bought that car will come online and talk about it - maybe it's a solid car... or maybe it has one heck of a story  :popcrn: I am with you - someone either ran out of money - or didn't care about the long-term and threw a cheapie paint job on the car... ::)

Looking at the underhood pics, check out the paint area near the hood hinges where they meet the engine compartment. TERRIBLE!!! :slap:

I'm thinking this type of selling bothers some off because if they stuck their "Nut and bolt" restored Charger up for sale it wouldn't bring much more than this "repainted XP29 car did", and all this guy had to do to make bank was simply "Repaint an XP29 Car".....

A friend of mine on LI NY knows the seller and told me not to buy a car from him... Confirmed the guy is a "dealer" (flipper?) and would not have been one of his personal collection cars... It sounds like the truth in the ad/inquiry might have been stretched...  :rotz:
