Here's our next project up in line. One 1974 Duster. Seems we were forced to buy her.. $900 I believe.. Im not a big A body fan,
but eh.. :shruggy: just doin' it for the practice... Its got a 225 six with a forged crank. Bro says it might just get 30mpg.. We were thinking
of keeping the slant and doing headers and intake since I've never done one. I hear up to +115 hp with those mods.
Did I mention my back hurts?

RallyeMike loves /6 intake and exhaust manifolds

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
      a liberal, oh fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable!

i had a 75 \6 with 4 spd od stock that got 25 -26 on freeway runs. had small spoiler and hood scoop for fresh air and very open as in euro exhaust baffles  at rear axle,to give some rumble on take off and down shifts.was fun and dirt cheap to insure and rom on the interstate chasing parts and partys .have 3 \6 cars now ,fun just not good for high rpms,,,,say boom :yesnod: :yesnod:

chargermike

quit messing around. trash that 6 and put that 360 in it. put the 340 back in the cuda and put that runnin 360 in it. have my tranny guy zack build a 727 and make it nice. you have all winter to do it. trade that 6 for a rear end. call the butcher he will have one or i will give you that rear end with the rear discs that i have.  paint her up nice and she will be one hot duster.

Coo; project,  I am doing a 71 Duster.  It was a 318 3spd.  I am doing a 340 4spd car.  I have been torn on the color, Sublime, plumb crazy, and Panther pink, are at the top of my list.  I had all but decided on Plumb Crazy purple.  The only problem I had with it was so many Duster owners had done that color.  After you saying your going purple.  I am back on the fence :brickwall:  Good luck with your project!

I dont know, I kinda like the 6. With the headers, and intake... its something different. Went through last night and shaved the entire engine bay,
welding up everything. Notice I tucked the bumper in about 2 1/2"... plus will section it to length, fit it to the body, and have it pinned and re-chromed.

Actually you can really bump the power with some port work & milling the head down .100

djcarguy

so how do ya tuck the bumper back??remove impact shock or what??  thanks dj

Patronus

To tuck the bumper I just removed it and the huge mounting bracket behind it. Then I cut into the bracket's depth and welded it
back on.  :icon_smile_big:
(used the rest to keep my boat anchored)
I think it will really stand out. I like to do small mods people can tell, but they're not quite sure what you did. Like the bumpers.
I do have a couple questions for anyone whos done a six: First off, should I run 2x2 or just one 4? I think the cost is the main factor
and Im not too sure I can sync carbs... what about even a 500cfm 2bbl?

Nice, I've got a salty little 74  :yesnod:  I like the Slant, they really do get great mileage and are basically indestructible...I have pics somewhere of a guy with a worked /6, but it was from a few years back...

I will have to add that a 340/360 or 318 with better heads will really make things interesting for you should it be an option.

I like the bumper mod!

Its looking good! Purple and orange are my two favorite colors for Dusters. As soon as I can figure out where to hide one from my wife I will get one to play with.
