On Sunday, December 4th, the Classic Industries 1972 "Twisted" Duster - featured on the new season of the hit SPEED TV series Chop Cut Rebuild, received a "Best Of Show" trophy at the annual John Force Holiday Car Show in Yorba Linda, California. This year's show featured over 1,700 cars on display and garnered thousands of toys donated to underprivileged children in our community. We are honored to have been part of this very successful charity event which brings holiday joy to children in our community every year. The Classic Industries Duster ascended above many superb entries to win a prestigious acknowledgment from the judges at the show. The Duster came to championship form on Chop Cut Rebuild with the support and skill of many talented technicians and with the enthusiastic assistance of many sponsors. A well deserved "Thank You" goes out to all who helped.

Once again, our sincere "Thanks" to all involved in restoring this amazing car!

Best regards,
Dan Woods

A "chevy build"? Don't tell that to Jason, he'll drive his 70 Charger up a tree! These guys are "car guys". Winning a Best of Show Award, is proof of that. As for the black motor compartment... it's a custom build - not a factory concourse. Personal choices are what "custom" is about. As far as being accurate, how many here have used lead on their seams, like the factory did??? My bet is most people here who have restored a project filled the B pillar with kitty hair or bondo and then come here to complain about others not being "accurate"... Seams ( :icon_smile_wink:) a little hypocritical to me! Would you call Revhondo a "Chevy Guy"? After all, he spends every day working at D&P Classic Chevy! I think some people just put too much into being a "Mopar Guy" when in reality we're all "Car Guys".

Dan,

Based on the picture in your profile, car looks sweet! :2thumbs:

I just got Comcast and watched the first two episodes on On Demand - good stuff.

What's with the lack cars you drive on the show??  I saw many commercial breaks without you driving a car- WTF? :icon_smile_big:

Thanks for all the kind words guys!  :2thumbs:

FYI... Shafi Keisler has started touring the XP Hemi Charger. It was at PRI two weeks ago and Street Legal wrote a very nice article (with pics).

I'm anxiously waiting for the CCR Marathon this Saturday on SPEED! An entire day of the Charger/Vette builds. Keep your fingers crossed that the ratings are strong!

Easy Dan :) let me explain please.  :RantExplode:  First I like the car  :drool5: especially the grill  :o

One of the unique thing about Mopars are the body colored motor compartments that the gm crowd don't have.
It's a great way to show case a beautiful power plant like you have. All that black does not allow the detail of the motor to stand out. INHO If that dusters fire wall and fenders were silver that Hemi would really stand out.

I'll show you my non correct bucket of bolts as an example, it's not a pro build with a large budget. So forgive me for the quality I did the best i could in my humble 2 car garage.

Do you see what I'm trying to say Dan?

I get the drift. Our Charger was color correct under the hood. But, we still got the "Not Mopar Guys" comments from many people. In defence of the Classic guys, they are great enthusiasts and it is a little insulting to give them a "you'e not one of us" type of comment. 2nd, there are three colors on the exterior of the Duster... including BLACK. 3rd, Silver and black are the two most predominent colors on a crate motor! So, why say the silver would be better? Why not the burgundy?

As for why Mopars are body colored under the hood, I think you would find that the feature had far more to do with cost savings on the assembly line than as a method to showcase the power plant.

All that said, I am glad you and so many others here see the positives in this car and the positives of a company like Classic Industries stepping up to offer more choices for buyers of Mopar products. That in itself, is reason to be encouraged. :2thumbs:

As much as I don't like to see a Mopar with a black engine compartment because it doesn't look complete-I agree with Dan on this one.  Looks awesome.  If the car was a solid silver, I would agree to the same for the engine compartment, since this car is painted what it is, it has a nice contrast.  :nana:

Hi Dan,
I've been watching CCR for years, I was watching the other day and there was a marathon on with Duster and Willys builds. My question is... What A/C system did you guys use on the duster? I didn't catch the brand/model, but thought it was a really cool, clean, compact system. I would like to put A/C back on my Charger down the road (couple of years maybe), and think I would rather buy something new and compact like that, rather than rebuild and/or replace the original A/C components.

Keep it up,
Jason

For the Duster we used Vintage Air. For the Willys we used Old Air Products. Vintage's system is a great drop in unit for the Duster. It also allows you to smooth the firewall a little like we did too.

Good luck with it!
