As some of you know, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's in August of 2009 after 3+ years of related symptoms were wrongly diagnosed as something else.  The progression of the disease is beginning to have a significant impact on my "out of control" hobby, and I have already sold my Superbird, Hemi `Cuda, and several  other neat Mopars.  Although I am nowhere near being out of the hobby,  I would like to eliminate my debt, or at least the bulk of it...

Enter the Daytona, it seems to be the most valuable car that I own... even in it's current wrecked/unrestored condition! ...
Thanks,

Allen

Hopefully my comments won't rock any boats, and I am one of the very minor contributors to the forum (and occasionally with humor that isn't the greatest mesh with the group), but I will say, in my serious opinion, I would hope that Allen wouldn't sell the Daytona or anything else, at least at the moment.  It is obvious from the "Blue Thunder" Charger 500 restoration that turned out spectacular that Allen can do/oversee a high quality restoration, which obviously is a great accomplishment!

Even though doctors have said things, I wouldn't live my life by their words.  My granddad was told by a doctor long ago, when he was a young man, that he was in poor health and might not live long, but he outlived that doctor, and even though he smoked he lived to be 83.  Allen has seen that doctors can be wrong.  The world of medicine is making advances every day, and there is a high emphasis on curing Parkinson's Disease, and it could happen at some point.

And as far as not leaving any debt, as long as the pluses add up to greater than the debt, let those who are still here take care of it, one dollar bill isn't any different than another dollar bill, but the cars are unique and a source of great happiness (or at least they sure would be for me!!!).  Many times, having the positive attitude is a huge factor in a person's medical situation.  I just think that, at least at the moment, based on what has been said, that it isn't time to sell, it is time to enjoy or keep enjoying, or even start restoring the Daytona.

There may be additional tax factors to think about prior to selling any appreciated assets too, so before making any major financial moves it would be prudent to consult with a competent tax attorney (and no, I don't mean H&R Block, etc., not to cast dispersion on anybody who does a competent job of preparing tax returns, I mean somebody specialized in this aspect of tax law).

Well thought out, well written, WELL DONE!

Thank you for your thoughts, and your kind and hopeful outlook on my health situation...

With two of three children still in College (Law School & Pre-Med), a major remodel of my home property, and the sky-rocketing medical costs (both due to health issues, AND the health insurance fiasco) there is a limited amount of "Hobby" funds.  For example my monthly Group Rate LMA Aetna PPO Insurance premiums have increased from $620 to $1170 for EACH participant in the last five years, and co-pays, deductibles, etc are way up as well...  but I am looking at 10-15 years out, and trying to make the right decisions now.  At any rate, my major concern is time... enjoying the hobby while I am still somewhat mobile...

Allen, I have known you for 30 years... MAN !! 30 years !!!!??? I have known you in the days you could pick up a bare block by yourself to now, fighting with LIFE-mopar-enjoyment against your Parkingson's... It is a hard battle and one that's nearly impossible to go backwards, but you have continued to live your life, seemingly, the way you want.

For my vote and input, for whatever its worth, I say restore the 3x black '68 Hemi Charger R/T.. Along with the six pack 'Cuda, that black beast is what I most associate you with..

My one and only W23 recall wheel I had found. Was missing center cap also.It looks like it experienced the lug nuts getting loose and someone still drove on it .Enlarging the one of the 5 mounting hole

Hey Alan! How you doing?.

Hi Brian! ... Well, some days Suck "OUT LOUD" (Quoting a College Roommate), while others like today are pretty good.  Even with the Tornado Warnings we had today (and Tornadoes nearby and in the air), and spending about 45 minutes in a hallway, I still had a great day.

How about you my friend, how are things going for you... what is your current project?

Hey Alan! How you doing?

I am deep in to a loooong overdue Inventory, and that includes placing the parts needed by a car with that car (on it, in the trunk, whatever...).  One exception will be the NOS Daytona Nose and Valance... I may cushion them and strap them to the roof....

If I still have the Daytona when my sell-down clears sufficient space, I may mount the nose & valance...

Here is my long time friend Tommy cleaning the dust off the hood and fenders, the previous owner of the sheetmetal had them on his 1969 Charger when it was painted because he did not realize the 1969 and 1970 were different.

BTW, Tommy collects Mopars also, including a beautiful 1968 Hemi  Charger R/T!

To my friends on this forum... I have finally made the decision that my Daytona will be sold.  I am past the "gut wrenching" aspect of it, and now it is just a task I need to complete.

The Daytona will be prepared to show & sell over the next 2-3 weeks, and will first be offered for sale on DC Com ...The Ad will start in a day or two , and will be updated as it is cleaned up for the sale...
