Wow,  Glenn Beck :D  was playing this song on his talk show as I found this thread.  I will voice my opinion before the inevitable lock of this thread. Hank has every right to say what the man said, but ESPN also had the right to pull his song for that game. I did find it funny Hank pulled his song for any future broadcast and then 10 hours later ESPN said they will no longer need his services.  Not sure how they can fire someone who already quit. Nice move ESPN. :P

I love the song,  personally I think it's spot on, with the state of current affairs :2thumbs: I think he has all the right in the world to say what he thinks, he's a citizen,& a patriot,  sometimes the truth hurts, also he paid the price for telling the truth about how he feels about how the pres. BHO is running or ruining our country...  He could have been a little more P.C. about it I'm sure, he chose not to, that's 1 of the great things about this fine country you can say what you think, "freedom of speech" many countries aren't as fortunate as we are...  :Twocents:

Actually, yes. He has millions of listeners! These people are not all dumb like you would probably like to believe. No, they are thinking people that care about this country. That want to make a stand for what they believe in! They follow and believe Beck not because of what he says, but because his magic underwear has cast a spell on them.

Heh...I find all of this quite hilarious.

Glenn Beck is a complete friggin' douchebag...I would say that he aspires to be Rush Limbaugh but is not quite smart enough to get there.

As far as Hank, the sequel is concerned.  I've seen him in concert three times...I never missed the opportunity to see him when he came through Charlotte.  He was a hell of an entertainer and it was always fun to see him get drunker as the evening progressed.  It was also fun because Bocephus fans were never selfish with their weed.  I was never holding when I went to one of his shows, but everyone around me made sure I wasn't neglected. Charlotte police used to bust more people for possession at Hank Jr. shows than they did at Grateful Dead shows...so I have kind of a soft spot for old Hank Jr.

That being said, he hasn't been relevant since 1988.  His star has faded to the point that I'm sure this publicity is a Godsend to him.

Like Sean Penn, Alec Baldwin, Toby Keith, Charleton Heston, and the rest of the music and film stars who spout off political messages...I figure he's just an entertaining dumbass.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

I don't know the whole story but I have to say if he was asked for his opinion on something and answered the question honestly I don't see the problem. If his employers are really that worried about following the laws of political correction they can fire him but I really don't think saying what's on your mind from time to time is really all that bad, unless you're like one of these celebrities who can't shut up. I've heard way more politically opinionated BS over the years from Penn and Baldwin and to my knowledge they've never been fired for any of it. I've seen Baldwin red-faced and spitting venom many times and he's always getting work. Double standard?

Asking a professional celebrity how to fix America is sorta like asking them how to fix a 440's stalling problem.  It's not their field.  They might possibly know something about it but there are too many more qualified people that we could be listening to instead.

Hank Williams is a professional celebrity.  So is Glenn Beck.  So are the presidents & congressmen we choose from.

I don't think Glenn is a hater. He's just a substance-abusing, suicidal, drunk, ADHD, nut job with zero credentials. At least that's what Wikipedia confirms. The only thing I would attribute to him as being an accomplishment was the fact that he states he was high every day for 15 years straight. If true, that's really something else!

So there it is. And people hold this guy up as an authoritative spokesman for their cause? Has nobody ever heard the idea that when you hear a message, you should consider the source?

Beck was pulled off TV because the act that he transformed his show into was something that belonged in a traveling circus tent or with a wagon full of snake-oil. The liberals didn't whine him away. They never watched him. It was his own conservative audience that was tuning out his increasingly whacko behavior.

Hank gets sideways and he suffers a bit of the same fate as Beck.

I think everyone realizes that Glen & Rush are both very similar to Howard Stern in the fact/way they are there for an audience like a shock jock of sorts, they do what they do, for ratings I really don't think any one really thinks every word they say is fact, they have some good points of view but that's it, Just like Keith Obberman on Current TV or CNBC or MSNBC, Bill Maher spew their leftest views & most of the ABC NBC CBS mainstream {lamestream} media,  same crap just in the other direction... Celeberties should say what they want, it's free country, but people need to take what they say like a grain of salt, after all, they many times are doing it just to sell a book or albums & for ratings or a second agenda that too many people get duped into, they are all just doing, what ever they do, on the left or right, liberal or conservative, for entertainment purposes only...

I once heard Glenn Beck describe himself (it was in a public setting but not on his own show) as basically a circus clown.

I don't say this to particularly insult him, but rather to point out that these guys usually don't take themselves as seriously as they pretend to.  Gotta keep that grain of salt handy with all of them.  Some of them might indeed be arguing their true opinions but they are generally still being clowns when they do it.

Brock Lee

The proof is in the evolution of the character he created. I used to watch him on CNN. He was very middle of the road. I originally thought he was a lame attempt by CNN to make their own version of Jon Stewart (it was supposed to be a humorous look at the events of the day by a so called comedian). But his ratings were very middle of the road as well. He started leaning just a little to the right, likely to grab some of the Fox viewers. When the ACORN scandal hit, he saw it as an opportunity to push the envelope and get some new viewers. CNN didn't like that, and Fox made him a deal. The minute he got over to Fox he began pandering to the right wing. He kept probing to see what things would get him more viewers. He exploited what worked and glossed over what didn't work. In the end his sideshow was too over the top and outside of reality that even Fox didn't want his ass anymore.

I know how it is going to end. Way down the road, after he has faded from public memory, maybe just before he dies..he is going to confess that this was all schtick. He is in it to play this part as long as possible and grab up the money because he has no other talents that will make him this kind of bread. And I do believe he gets off on the attention too.

I remember he was all charged up about healthcare back on CNN. No, he wasn't against a public option, he thought the healthcare industry was a mess. He felt they were treating people like cattle. He was out to expose them..he even was interviewed about his awful operation experience while still in the hospital. But it didn't bring him the ratings, so when he moved to Fox months later..he was proclaiming the US Heathcare industry is the FINEST in the world! Oh yeah, he is such a straight shooter. What an asshole. But hey, he plays a character, people like that character. It is like digging Barnaby Jones, or Salacious Crumb. The only problem is many people out there don't get it is just entertainment.

Facts are not "because Glen said it was so". Here are some facts:

Facts: Beck lost more than a million viewers from its 5:00 p.m. show, going from an average 2.9 million in January 2010 to 1.8 million in January 2011. His radio show was dropped in several big cities, including New York and Philadelphia. TV advertisers started fleeing, including Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, and Wal-Mart. Look it up.

In summary, Beck got increasingly whacko, viewership dropped, full pockets were no longer so..............   Fox asked Beck to get the viewership back up.... he continued down his circus path and was asked to wrap it up. Beck and Fox are saving face with their amicable parting, and why wouldnt they? The feed off each other and make each other a bunch of money, which is why the Fox-Beck relationship existed at all.

And to keep from wandering completely off topic: Hank Williams is ALSO no longer relevent.

You just contradicted yourself all within a matter of two sentences.  He either makes them a pile of money or not.  You can not have it both ways.  I know Media Matters or The HufPo may say he was canned because they would love nothing more, but the fact is he quit, sorry. If you want to see people that were fired look at Olbermann, now he was sh!tcanned.  :2thumbs:

Yes, his viewership had dropped, however there was not anyone even close to his ratings at 5:00pm, ever.  And as far as his radio show of course Phily and New York  would not carry his show, the ratings would suck, they are liberal cities.  Rush, Hannity and Levin are all dropped on and off too in larger markets, it is very common.  Glenn is still the third largest radio talk show in the country.

Now bored of the thread.

Problem is people actually takes these jokers/clowns/wankers seriously and then take the entertainment "facts", or as I call it Bu!!$h!t, to the voting booth.

No, just disappointed in their spin.  :yesnod:

I'm really surprised this has not garnered a lock. I guess Troy is a bit busy....  :icon_smile_wink:

For the record, I like to listen to the above mentioned, if not demonized by some in this thread, radio/TV personalities. Take from them what you will, but I always am trying to learn something new and even more understand something new. They have a perspective on our society that I like.  ;)

But do his followers agree?  Do they see him as mindless entertainment?  Or a fact spouting pillar?  Or just a washed up comedian looking for a new source of income?

"Come on now" and the progressive socialist liberal left leaning Blue Dog Democrats show don't do the same thing leading viewers &/or listeners to the polls & voting booths with there socialist liberal tax & spend agenda... Be realistic !

And yes, I have Socialist tendencies. :2thumbs:  I firmly believe in the Social Security Act of 1935 which provided Americans with Unemployment Insurance, Medicaid / Medicare, children's insurance, Social Security retirement and disability insurance benefits. Equality for minorities. Progressive tax code. Higher education subsidies through grants and loans. Unions. A national medical insurance program might be a good idea too... and on.

A whole bunch of Socialist programs there... odds are you or your family want, or use, those benefits and protections too... makes you a Socialist in denial

I don't 'want' half of the stuff you mentioned but I have no choice to opt out of them thanks to people that think it's a good idea for me to pay for those programs because they want them.
