We drove up to the Blue Ridge Parkway for a day to look at the colors, and do some sight seeing. The next couple weeks are going to be spectacular if today is any kind of indication. On the way home driving down 321, I saw an old VW van pulling a little trailer. Not too dramatic right? Except the van was TWICE as long as a regular VW van! It was stretched, and looked factory! Of course it was headed the other way so I couldn't get a picture of it. Did they make those? I've never seen one before.  :shruggy:

Back in the 60's I had a friend that  had two vans.  He cut the middle out of one and made a stretched version.  He then put together what was left over from the other van to make a shorty.  He was very talented and they both looked like they came from the factory that way.  We had more fun with the shorty version, as it would do wheelies across an intersection and you could park anywhere.  This was in S.Cal. there are lots of shorties around but the lengthened buses are a bit rare.... the second one is obviously a toy. ::)

I saw this one in NC between Linconton, and Hickory headed north on 321. It was tan with a white roof and looked original. Was this a factory option, or a custom?  I'd like to see it stopped somewhere to take pix of it.

There's a van/truck in Charlotte I can get a pic of tomorrow.

There used to be a longer than normal VW van at the Crown City Inn on Coronodo Island.  It had a glass top.  It (the strectch) looked very factory.

I believe you may have seen a VW Samba, which I think was the largest of the Non-Commercial vans.

That one is longer than a regular one, but isn't as long as the one I saw yesreday.
