manifolds for my 440

I'm thinking about changing the intake manifold on my 440. Currently I'm running an Edelbrock Performer (not RPM). I've been told that the Performer isn't a very good intake.

Here are some specs on my 440 (not much info as the previous owner already bought the car with the rebuilt engine):
915 heads
large cam (no specs unfortunately)
compression? no idea

Which intake would be the best one for my 440?

1.) Indy dual plane
2.) Edelbrock Performer RPM
3.) Holley Street Dominator

I want to use my stock hood (70 Charger) but all of these intakes should fit with a drop base air cleaner.

Chryco Psycho

the stock iron intake is better then the performer !!
I would use the Holley Street Dom , it is the lowest intake & will allow the highest air filter which helps air flow too. The SD will perform on the same level as the RPM but the RPM is taller

Sorry to hijack this thread but since I have a performer intake and carb on my 440 and will be installing the valley pan with crossover block soon, should I install the stock intake instead?  This is for a cruiser by the way.  It's a '71 hp 440, will have to check the numbers on the intake.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I would block the cross over & the stock intake will distribute the fuel better & offer better flow over the Performer

The 1970-71 factory 4bbl manifold is considered the best OEM piece ever produced and is a consideral improvement over the "performer"   :yesnod:

Is the Indy dual plane too big for my combo?

Chryco Psycho

The indy intake seems to work great but I thought they were for the larger Max Wedge port heads , maybe they offer them for the small port also , I am not sure ?

ChargerST

Just found out that the ICH dual plane should work as it utilizes 906 intake port openings (that can be ported to max wedge): http://usaperform.com/documents/Indy%20Cyl%20Head/Tech%20Indy%20440%20Manifolds_pg9.pdf

Chryco Psycho

I think the ICH is not overly high but not as low as the SD

firefighter3931

The ICH dual plane is 5.25in tall....same as a Performer RPM so it will clear a stock hood with a drop base aircleaner.  :yesnod:

The Indy manifold is really a max wedge port runner size dual plane that is necked down at the port opening for std port sized heads but can easily be opened up to MW sizing. That being said ; unless you are running a really hot street setup i would recommend a std port runner manifold like the RPM or Street Dominator to maintain strong low end throttle response and air velocity.  :yesnod:

Another good option is a vintage CH4B manifold ; looks stock but performs extremely well. Fits fine with factory throttle/kickdown linkage.  :2thumbs:

Thanks guys! I think that I'll get a SD - and add a 1" spacer. That should help with heat transfer and may create a small tunnel ram effect.

Challenger340

Performer RPM seems like a decent manifold, requires some port matching, but decent.
It Made 556Hp & 576Trq last week on the Dyno for us....
on,
a 10.4:1 pump gas 451, with Flat Tappet Hydraulic Cam, so not bad....
Only wimps wear Bowties !

I only have the number for the '71 intake which is what I have.  It's 3512501

the difference will be significant going from a Performer to the RPM , the performer is very poorly named unless you add non to the the front
