'70 Woodgrain Steering Wheel question

Ok, I am building a '69 Charger first of all.... it originally came with the three spoke padded steering wheel with the horn ring.  But I want to switch it over to a three spoke woodgrain wheel.  So, I went searching and got a freebie (yes, freebie) '70 steering column with a woodgrain wheel.  So I took off the steering wheel and trim ring with plans of mounting it onto my '69 column... which I figured you could do.  But then I come across an auction for the trim ring pictured below which says that it's a '70 only part.  So that leads me to my question... does anyone know if this trim ring and the woodgrain wheel from a '70 will mount on to a '69 column.  Thanks for your help!

You should not have any problems...Don't tell but I have a '70 trim ring on mine.  ;)

From what I hear the 70's are actually harder to find.

Hmmm, wonder what makes them different.  Thanks for the info!  By the way.... BEAUTIFUL interior!!!  I love it.  A couple Charger buddies of mine hate red interior but I think it's awesome.  I think it's the most "poppin" interior color.  I had red interior in my white '69 Sport Satellite and the way it would glow inside the car just made you HAVE to take a look!  Thanks again!

The trim ring in '68 and '69 is "flush" with the horn pad. This '68 GTX picture is a little hard to see, but the trim ring is the correct one.

the 69 column is a small diameter due to the ign switch being mounted in the dash , the 70 is an inch or so larger in diameter

This is the 70 style wheel hub, it has an extra lip to cover more of the column and
it has a black collar on the bottom side to adapt to the larger 70 column, the
70 wheel also has 3 small threaded holes in it the 68-69 don't have.
Yes the 70 wheel and hub are worth much more than a 68-69 and harder to find.

I have the same question/issue.  If I were to instal my 70 woodgrain wheel on a 69 column, will there be any gaps?  Do you still need the plastic trim ring that goes below the wheel on the 70's?  I've seen one installed on a 69 and there seems to be a gap at the column for some reason?
Looking at it from the driver's seat, it looks great.  If you look in from the passenger window you see that gap between the wheel and the column.

Thanks

The basic shape of the steering wheels are the same so you can use a 70 wheel on a 69 column with the 69 horn cap retainer. The switch and the horn caps are the same for all 68-70 woodgrain wheels. I have everything in stock for all 3 years so let me know if you need any help.

I found a crack free 70 wheel, so I swapped it into my 69. I used the 1969 hornpad assembly though and sold the 70 (not worth much more when it comes time to cash in). That system worked perfect. The 1969 assembly covered the screw holes in the 70 wheel.

I went thru this a few months ago, 70 wheel on a 69. The part where the horn adapter meets the horn pad is the same diameter on both years, its the column diameter that is different. I used the 69 adapter...I posted a pict of the 69 and 70 horn adapter together for comparison here, just scroll down near the end:

I've seen some posts were the wheels are restored back nice and some of the folks that do this.  Was just wondering if anyone has actually had real wood trim cut out for them and stained to match the dash trim?  My 68 Firebird has a real wood trim steering wheel and it doesn't seem like it would be real hard to do for these  :shruggy:.
