TRW power steering pump: who rebuilds or sells them?

'68 Charger, 440, no AC.  I have a TRW power steering pump.  It leaks terribly out the shaft seal.  No auto parts chain stores (like Auto Zone, etc.) sell a rebuilt pump, or even a shaft seal kit.

Who sells rebuilt TRW power steering pumps, or parts to re-seal them?

Thanks,
Mike

Hey MM... I'm not an expert by any means and am still getting up to speed on a lot of things to do with my car, but I think you might have a bit of a challenge on your hands.  I also have a TRW pump on a '68 and I've been unable to locate anything.  Not that I have a lot of contacts or anything, but...

If you ever get to the point of going with a different pump, I'd be interest in your existing TRW.  The pump on mine is fine... my issue is with the resevoir (someone decided to use it for leverage when tightening up the ps belt) so the O-ring doesn't seal very well anymore.

Hope you have better luck than I did...      :yesnod:

I'm looking into converting my TRW set-up to a Saginaw set-up, based on advice from JR at Bouchillon Performance.  From what he told me, it sounds like the TRW and Federal set-ups weren't that great from the beginning, and that the Saginaw is a superior performing and more commonly available way to go.

I don't think you would want my TRW pump, the reservoir on it is dented in from being pried on as well, although it doesn't leak around the large perimeter O-ring...yet!

Take care!

I agree. I have one too and was having a difficult time finding anything. There have been other members with the same issue recently. Unfortunately, converting to a different pump means changing the lines, mounting brackets, and the part on the steering box that the hose connects to is different also. I thought about it but it's a fairly involved process.

I had the TRW pump but needed parts for it which I couldn't get so I decided to change over to the Saginaw. I found it to be very reliable. :2thumbs: No looking back.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Is this the pump you need?  If so, this is an extra.

As BBS indicated in his post, the only way to tell is to look at the back of the pump.  The TRW and Federal pumps look identical until you look at the backs of the pump.  If you're able to post a picture of the back, I can let you know if that's the one I need...    :yesnod:

Steer and Gear is a good source for all things steering pump. Firm Feel rebuilds them too.

Does the back look like the picture of the TRW that Bull posted?
