Hood Hinges

Hey all,

I have a problem with my Hood Hinges.  I'm trying to align my hood and I get all the body lines lined up but the hood still sticks up about 3/4 inch in the back by the wind shield.  Below is a link to pics of what I'm talking about.  Now if I sit on the hood or exert a lot of force with both my hands the hood goes down all the way, but then comes back up.  Also, when I go to close the hood it seems the passenger side hinge drops first and they ultimately seem kind of week as I need to pull down maybe a few inches before the hinges take the load of the hood.

Has anyone had this issue before and knows what it might be?  Are the Hinges Sprung?  Broken?  Do I need to get them restored with new rivets?

Thanks in advance for any help.

What you need to do is loosen the rear bolts from the hinges on both sides then get a friend to push the hood all the way up and while he's holding it in that position, retighten the bolts.  Problem solved.  :2thumbs:

Sounds like your hinges are shot.  :yesnod:

Having the hood stick up in the back after it's properly adjusted is a tell-tale sign. Very common.
Either have them rebuilt, buy a rebuilt set, or buy a repro set from AMD.

could try seeing how much more adjustment the  hinge rear bolt holes are but looks like they are pretty much at the lowest posistion ! when the rivits wear , it allows the top half of the hinge above the rivits , to have movement !(loose/clearance) no matter  how low the you set the hinge , the spring tension always wants to pull the back of the hood up !!  classic signs !

Check and try this BEFORE you buy new hood hinges: http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=6820629&an=0&page=0

Might be the solution to your problem.

So I tried the method as described in the link above and sure enough it worked.  I see how it works too, it stretches a metal just enough, plus the hood has to come further down. with slight pressure.  But it works, thanks for the help guys.
