Why do some guys hate Flippers??

Why do some guys have issues with people buying cars and re-selling later? If you are selling your car and you get what you are asking for it, who cares what the new owner decides with the car? If a person decides to re-sell (Flip) a car, it doesn't matter what he paid for it, if you like what you see and like the price, I don't see a problem. I have bought many cars through the years with the intent to sell. I would do all the required work to make it safe for the road and pass inspection, put it up for sale. Always had satisfied customers. That's how I funded the restoration of my charger.

Flippers are just middle men , alot of them lie about why they want the car and they beat up the seller on the price to ensure they make top dollar on the flip .

Flipping isn't the issue for me, it's when the person gives you some kind of BS story, or cries poverty to you, & immediately unloads it for a huge profit with never intending to do what they had told you. In general I know what I want to get for something & don't mind bargaining with a buyer. I've given away parts, even a running car once, for nothing to people I knew as a favor knowing that they weren't going to flip it.

Only one time that I was aware of, I thought I was doing a favor to someone I knew & gave them a mint, rim blow steering wheel for next to nothing because they said they had to have it & wanted to put it in their car. I saw them at a swap meet soon after, & they had the wheel out on a table for 5 times the price I sold it to them. I don't hold any grudge because I made the choice to price it, but if they need something from me ever again they'll pay way more no matter what.

I like Flipper. Usually only the "bad guys" didnt like Flipper.

I always worried that he would be caught in a tuna net. Fortunately that never happened.

Being that I'm from Miami, grew up watching the Dophins in the good ole days and seeing flipper at the end zone in his personal swimming pool, I like Flipper...

I agree.  It is the BS story most flippers give.  "It is a dream of mine and my son to buy a car and work on it together", that one is the worst.

when i was a young lad in the 60's my parents took me to california on vacation and we went to sea world. at that time they announced that the dolphin in the show flipper was really a female dolphin. i about died right there. flipper was sposed to be a boy not a girl!!! i picked a new favorite at that moment

Exactly right. The problem with these guys is all the lies and deceit. One flipper I dealt with, who is/was a member of this site, tried selling me a car he didn't own yet. Thankfully I figured out what was going on beforehand or it could have turned into a costly mess. Still don't know if he ever actually owned the car.

Our resident flipper, Travis, has a good reputation. In his case i would consider the profit he clears to be a finder's fee.

I have bought several cars and parts with the specific purpose of a future sale. I do not beat down a seller with lies and decietful stories either. I am of the belief that if a man sets a fair price, you pay it and move on. Grinding a man down to save a buck makes you look like an inconsiderate ass. No, I am NOT a rich man. I just don't feel comfortable low balling a person that sets a reasonable price, and I have NO problem being rude to people that low ball me.
Flippers? Theres good and bad here. These car "hustlers" often unearth cars from fields, inside barns, estate sales or from some obscure rural area. These cars may have been sent to the crusher if not for the diligence of the so called FLIPPER. I agree though that the jerks that construct a totally false story or schmooze the seller to get on their good side, should be beaten with a rubber hose.

I see most flippers as con men.   It's not what they do but more of HOW they do it.   Lies and deceit gives them the bad name.

It all depends on how the game is played by the player...Flipping parts to fund a restoration has been done by everyone including me, but as mentioned, trying to justy come into the middle of a deal simply for the money isn't cool in my book. I have personally seen fairly "ok" Mopars go for what I call a "Fair" amount. Only to be marked up Crazily by flippers that haven't even done one damn thing to make it worth the extra money. Now, the SAME car you could have bought for a reasonable price will cost you five times that. If it was sold at a "Fair" price by the original owner, then why is it all of a sudden worth three times that much just because a flipper got his/her hands on it? Why isn't said flipper doing anything to said car to make it worth the extra money? Why isn't flipper restoring car to make it worth the extra money? Also, flippers drive up prices for the average "Entry level" enthusiast, therefore, pushes them right out of the hobby. Say a '68 Charger a little rough is ofr sale for $5K running. Flippers buys said Charger, and resells for $10K without doing anything to car. Now, the SAME EXACT car that someone coulda have bought and began the restoration on isn't able due to the greed of flipper..Then, in same breath, Flipper will get on Forums and exclaim how he/she wishes more youth [Young guns] would get involved in the hobby..Why? so they can make more $$$?


As long as the "Wall street", "Get rich quick" types have stumbled onto "What's hot right now", there will be flippers getting in the middle of estate sales trying to make a quick,easy, buck...

Exactly!  The BS stories are insulting, but ultimately isn't the price is up to the seller?   If they need a break for the "kid" or because they just had buy a kidney for their mom, it's not the seller's issue.

I don't believe they drive up the entrance barriers to the hobby.   They're simply reacting to popularity and price -not driving it.  Which in that case, the culprits are Dukes of Hazzard and Barrett Jackson (and the like).

PS - If the phrase "god bless you" comes out the guy's mouth and you didn't sneeze - run like hell or raise the price $5k.

I have bought and sold many cars and never bought one to flip, but I have no problem with flippers as long as they either say nothing about what they are doing or be honest.  I have bought some parts and doner cars.  One was a complete restorable 74 SE charger.  I told the guy (his mom was the original owner) that I was building a Bee clone from a 73 Rallye and I would use the parts i needed sell and scrap the rest.  I did not want this guy to have any thought that I was going to bring his moms car back to life.  The fact is parts of that 74 are probably living on about 30 different cars.

haha thanks for the compliment.. i think.. lol. to be honest i became a flipper way back by accident. bought my first charger at 19, found a parts car for $400 to get the interior i needed.. well when i took all that i needed some guy wanted to buy the remaining hulk for $1000.. i thought he was nuts, no motor, no trans and no interior. yeah it was a good body 68 charger R/T. After that, i thought hey there might be something to this..buy a car, use what i need, and still break even/make a few bucks. fast forward 14 years i wouldn't have had the parts and cars i've had over the years had it not been for the occasional flip. it funded my hobby. i could never have had the cars i've had. i'm not rich, got married with no money and a job that paid $17k a year..  i don't regret it a bit. The part i'm thankful the most for is selling off most of my spare parts in 05-06-07 for good money when everyone i knew told me to stop selling all my goodies..that i would regret it.. well now half that stuff is reproduced and the other half goes for a fraction of what it did 5 years ago.
As said before.. what really burns you is when you help someone out for cheap or for free and then see it for sale later at record prices. i don't give any BS stories when i buy a car.. do i jew someone down to get the best price possible? of course. but i don't tell them it's for my son with cancer and only 3 months to live to get it cheaper. i don't know how anyone could do that. If I i sell something and get what im asking, and then that person sells and makes $2000 6 months later.. good for them.
