Parents visiting and everyone was excited to jump into a project, so the offer was made to tackel the Charger and all hands were on deck!!   :2thumbs:
Seats out, carpet out, fuel tank dropped (hate those j-bolts   :brickwall:) fuel filler tube and cap removed, and sanding begun on all floor pans and trunk!   :o     so we have officially begun my wife's project with her IN the trunk to sand the floor.  the great news is it's all surfice rust and will be an easy clean before the painting begins.  going to work on the inside and then jump to under body before we tackle the new exhaust and shocks on all 4!  :icon_smile_big:

SO - what are the recommendations for padding on the floor??  Dynomats??  researched on line, but your thoughts  :Twocents: are appreciated!

another question....Ours is a 1970 and missing the black trim around the fron t bumper.   is that a rubber seal?? anything special??

a few pictures!

Thanks!    It was a busy day for sure.   I didn't see any build sheets and the seats were "re-done" by the PO.  I'll do some more diggin, but no fender tag and no build sheets so far....  :shruggy:    Also took off the steering wheel and blinker rod and gave them a nice blast with the drumel tool!  blinker looks new again, and the steering wheel is almost ready for paint!!   :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:
VIN has it as an original Slant 6 built early 70' in Michigan.... heard the PO painted it from a nice Maroon with a white bumble bee, to the Sub-lime... needs a new paint job though...

GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

41husk

Nice work! I got the 318 and 3 speed pulled out of the Duster.  Need to clean up the engine compartment and get ready to paint.  More than likely Plumb Crazy :shruggy: :shruggy:  I wish my wife wanted to help, she was on the " you need to decide what car you want to keep and sell the rest, no body needs  all those cars"  I keep telling her it has nothing to do with need!  Nobody needs ice cream and holloween candy but we sure seem to have a lot of it around here :nana:

That is a great comparison!!!  I "need" icecream, but some other toys "could" go!  :smilielol: LOL

We were hoping to reuse the existing wiring harness, but the more we dig the more we are finding brakes in the lines.   I've looked into the Painless harness systems... Thoughts??  :shruggy: :Twocents:

The Painless systems are a real "Pain-In-The_Ass"...stay away from them unless it's a last resort..

new harness's are available from most vendors

projectanimal

So what you're saying A383 is they need to change their name?? ::) :smilielol:     What makes them a PITA?

will search other vendors for a wiring harness.  have a lot of other things on the list to complete first, so I have some time.

Another good day in the garage!  Raining here in CT and my wife was out picking a wedding dress for her best friend.  I told her I'd get a jump on the trunk paint and see how it goes. :scratchchin:   it went better than I thought, so I jumped to the floor pans as well and got all the heavy rust covered!  :icon_smile_big:   then I checked out the chrome pulleys the previous owner installed and gave them a nice shine!    little light headed from the paint, but off setting that with a few beers!!   :D
has an issue posting the latest pictures, but going to work on them now.

I used an EZWiring harness with a mini fuse box.
Not difficult to do, although I did have the advantage that the previous owner had also installed one too, but had made a messy job of it, enough for me to restart from scratch. I basically just copied what was already done but did a much tidier job IMO.
And I also not only crimped, but also soldered and shrink wrapped every connection so I don't need to worry about things going pear shaped after a few years of service.
I'd have liked to have had the bulkhead connector for looks but it's probably safer not having all those terminals that tend to burn out so all in all I'm quite happy that I went the way I did.
Gotta love a '69

projectanimal

Thanks for the input Doctor!
I'll look into the EZwire as we'd like to tackle this ourselves.   all the old wire is there, so we have a map to work with, but I've noticed the wires going to the trunk are in rough shape with some splits and exposed sections.  :RantExplode:

Painless is just a universal harness so you have to terminate every connection , nothing plugs in .
M&H through Year one have the most accurate harnesses , the use all the factory connectors & just plug in like an original harness

Looking Good! I remember seeing the rubber fender to bumper fillers in a link recently so there made. I just can't remember who! (Mine is a 70 also.)

www.penstar.net  Go to "body parts" then look under "bumpers" section for 70 fillers.  :yesnod:

projectanimal

Thanks Guys!
Will check out the MH through Year one.  I have so many web links in my "favorites" link, I'm forgetting who sells what!!  :scratchchin: :P

about to jump back in the garage and start prepin and painting under the car.  dropped the fuel tank so we can get a few coats under the trunk pan as well as paint the fuel tank.  need to order up new J-bolts and hunt down the trunk gasket & filler tube gasket which goes under the fender.

Started a list of items we need to get her on the road and comfortable by next Spring..... :rotz:   amazing how things add up and all the little things you find when you're hunting for one item.... I have another car project and was ready for the "while you're in there" items to pop up, but I believe the secondary parts list is almost longer than our original list!!   :shruggy:

Life will be good once she's on the road though!!  :icon_smile_big: :2thumbs:

While crawling under the car painting today I finally wrote down the Rear Differential number and found out it's out of a Duster... :shruggy:   I guess is could be worse, but I'll be on the hunt for a Dana 60 since we're running a 440 now!!   :coolgleamA:    We knew this car was a non-matching numbers car, but hope we don't find too many back yard parts....
