Well.........I have just learned something new. I had no idea there were two. Cool! I guess I would vote for the short ones.

Trick question....my car had the long ones when I first got it (4/30/69 SPD) but I changged them out in favor of the shorties....how do I vote???

I think you should vote long in this case.

charge69

My car had the long ones on it from the factory and I just had the original ones rechromed so, ............ I vote the long ones.  Mine has a SPD on the fender tag of 314 by the way.

That's an interesting question however, like many safety items over the years, a new calendar year brings new safety features... :popcrn:

charge69

Could be plant-dependant but not likely. Mine was built at the Hamtramck plant.

My 69 doesnt have either.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

charge69

Imagine that !!!  :yesnod: :yesnod: I think they forgot to put them on !! ;D ;D

I sent a letter to Chrysler regarding this subject. The response was that it is time related with no cast in stone date.IIRC it was late nov.

jaak

My 69 and the 69 parts car both had short ones when I bought the cars. I got an AMD repo front bumper on there now, so it still has the short ones.

I always thought it was a vendor related thing that they ran short of them half way through the Model Yr. and the new ones were made a bit taller to help protect the "I" piece. but which Factory used which when i belive would be impossible to pin down. mine was a july 16th build date. near to - if not the last - Wk. of production. When i seriously crimped mine in '99 through no fault of my own, i had a two Yr. search to find replacments from local wrecking yards. i prefer them myself.  :shruggy:

Just 6T9 CHGR

Dave, yours is actually 7/11/69......

7/18/69 was the last day of production for the '69 model year.

Funny thing is that I have NO cars registered from 7/12-7/17....wonder if they took the week off???  :scratchchin:

If I remember correctly, Chris guessed mine at 8/5/68 based on another car in the registry 50 or so units after mine. St. Louis car that had short guards on it. No guards currently.

Did you mean the last scheduled production date used on tags / paperwork?

bill440rt

Weren't the taller ones available as an option? Or, standard on SE cars??
I thought you could get either tall or short bumperettes in '69?  :scratchchin:

I have the long ones but will likely swap them out for the short one, they just look better imo.

If I could find my short ones, I'd swap you.  How nice would a pair have to be to suit you?

There lies the issue.  The previous owner rechromed the bumpers but not the bumperettes.  They look more than decent but not as nice as the bumper which looks almost like new.  I would have to have a set that looks pretty much like new but it wouldn't be a fair trade as mine are not that good.

Ther is no way to know if any car was actually built on its SPD. Hamtramck mixed them up a LOT. 3 weeks or so before or after the SPD in some cases & cars built very close together with VINs close to 30,000 numbers apart.

Starting late in the 1972 model year, the mylar door stickers had a MDH (Month, Day, Hour) code. Since this sticker was one of the last things that went on the car at the end of the assembly line, the 'real' build time was noted. There are some examples in the thread at the link above.
