So the neighbor kid who is a senior this year sends me a text last night and says:

Kid: Hey, I'm going to Homecoming this Saturday, Do you think I could loan your car for that night?
Me: Only if you can make it do a burnout for 1 block.

Kid: Um whats a burnout?
Me: FAIL!  You can borrow my spouses mini-van now.

Me: you can borrow it if my spouse and I can ride in the back.
Kid: Ugh, I don't think that would work.

Me: when you say "loan", how much are we talking?
Kid: I must have said it wrong, borrow for the evening?

Me: My spouse still has her prom dress and I can rent a tux from 1993....
Kid: I already have my suit and she has her dress.

Me: no I'm talking about what we can wear when we ride along..
Kid: Dude, you unfortunately cant ride in the back.

Kid: So could I borrow it for Saturday please?? Without you riding in the back?

I haven't responded back yet, I need to come up with another confusing question for him.   He is a real good kid and I hire him to help me to projects once in a while but he is not a car guy so what do you guys think I should repond with?

You: Ok, YOU can ride in the back.

The kid's definitely got balls to ask and good taste in cars. Or he's just really trying to get laid.

Tell him "I'm sorry but my insurance policy doesn't allow anyone but "listed" drivers to operate the car."

Yah, it may be a lie but atleast no feelings get hurt.
I may be schizophrenic but at least I have us!

My insurance doesn't allow anyone under the age 25 to drive my Challenger. Saves Shelby asking me to drive it for another 4 years.  :D

That would NOT be a lie.    Underage drivers (ie: 25) are not permitted under most classic policies to the best of my knowledge.

Just the fact that he would ask the question indicates that he has no clue as to how special the car is to you.  JUST SAY NO!

The real driving factor in my decision is that I have not "broken in" the Charger yet and I'm certainly not going to let the neighbor kid  beat me to the punch.  Haha   :icon_smile_big:

This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Here's a little story that i told here once before that dovetails nicely with the thread topic.

My dad has a 1973 Roadrunner that he bought in 75 and its pretty much mint.  In the 1980s had a burnt valve so it was parked in a garage for some 10 years.  When i was 17 i wanted to get it out, rebuild the engine and use the car for my HS Junior Prom.  I begged and begged my Dad for a year to get it out and get it running again.  Finally he agreed and we got the car out of storage and we pulled the 400 and sent it to the engine builder for rebuilding.  My dad is a mechanic and his friend is the engine builder.

Prom comes and goes and no engine yet back from the engine builder.  I was upset but i had another year of HS, I'll just use it for Homecoming in the fall.  That dance comes and goes and i thought, well, I'll get the car by Prom my Senior year.  That dance comes and goes and i just couldn't understand why the engine took so long to have a valve fixed in the head.

After i graduated HS and went off to college guess what happened?  The engine was surprisingly done and ready to go back in the roadrunner.  Coincidence? :slap:

Just tell him you checked your insurance and no one under 25 can drive it. Or I your thinking about letting him that's your deal but I know Grundy wouldn't cover it.

If you have a msd box order a 3000 rpm limiter chip?

then again, he didnt even have the decency of asking you in person. F--- him.

Didn't anyone learn anything from watching Gran Torino.  :D

He said "That's a mirror, dip-shit!

Kid obviously has zero common sense which seems to be going around like allot lately

1968_Charger

theres no way i would let a neighbor kid drive the car, no idea what his plans are after homecoming(parties). or even if he takes care of it other jealous kids in a dark parking lot with it wont be good. highschoolers do stupid stuff.  :Twocents:

I would let him if I were you, and buy him a bottle of Makers Mark to top off the evening.

Old Moparz

I wouldn't even consider the thought of letting some kid drive an old car with a big block. Don't you remember what it was like to drive a hot rod at that age?  :shruggy:

If you like the kid & he's broke, rent him a limo or this.... http://www.exoticcarrental.com/
