tappet noise

have you guys heard of putting a little tranmission oil in the regular oil to quite the noise in the engine? truck has 94000 miles on it and the tappet noise is getting worse. thanks

Yep, did that back years ago.  The detergent used to clean up whatever grit was in there and free things up.
Now they have other products.  I used "Restore" on my 87 Lebaron ... worked as well.  Be sure the get the 4 -6 or 8 cyl version, which is ever is correct for your car.  It does make a difference.

We used to put a half-quart of diesel fuel in the oil and let it idle for 5 minutes. Did the trick usually. Of course you change the oil immediately afterwards.

I know lots of old guys who use Marvel Mystery Oil in their crankcases all the time. I'm sure it would work for a day or two before changing the oil too.
