Steering box flopover

I notice in my car and some other I've driven, that there seems like a point in the steering box whenyou are turning the wheel sharply that there is a "flopping" over sensation in the steering box.  Nothing is loose and there is no corresponding change in handling, it just seems like when you get close to the end of the steering travel it has this change in the feedback to the steering wheel.
Is this just wear on the steering gear or what causes it?

the two gear mesh most tightly on center & have a looser fit closer to the end of the travel

Or the angle of the pitman arm comes close to "flopping over".
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
