Buying a charger and need some advice

Hi

I have been a lurker on this forum for quite a while and I am now taking the plunge and buying my first charger.  I have a couple of concerns about the car though.  It is a a 1970 Sublime Charger R/T 440 with the auto and the dana 60.  I think that is right  .  The car is in really good condition and is drive able.  The only problems is with the left rear quater panel.  The owner sent me a pic and at the bottom next to the tire the paint is starting to bubble.  Is this a reason not to get the car?  Will the body work be expensive/extensive?  The rest of the paint needs to be touched up in places but there is no visible rust.

Anything can be fixed with enough time and money.
Pics would be nice.

yes pictures would help. Bubbling paint could be the onset of rust starting, or the signs of poor rust repair and cover up that hides much more.

I sincerely hope you plan on inspecting the car personally before you buy and not go by pictures and salesman talk.  You would not be the first one to get burned.

Bubbling can be local and easy to fix if you have the tools and know how or it can be the tip of the proverbial iceberg.  Go check it out and pay close attention to....I was going to list a few of the charger trouble spots but we can sum that up in one word, everything.  It's 41 years old, take your time looking things over.

If the ONLY problem is the quarter panel than that is not a good reason to avoid it (depending on the price of course) but I suspect that's not the ONLY problem with it. Bubbling is most likely (like 95% likely) a rust issue IMO.

The standard advice in the old car hobby is "don't buy a car with rust" and that's true in general.  But at this age you no longer find truly 100% rust-free cars even in Arizona.  It's more llike a question of how extensive the rust was allowed to get and/or how well the it was repaired later.

Bottom line, DO NOT buy the car without seeing it in person.  DO NOT.  At the very least, get a trusted mechanically competent 3rd party to see the car.  Hiding a rustbucket is very profitable for a con artist with deceptive pics and a lot of bondo.
