I am planning on removing my 3 speed manual trans and installing a 4 speed.  I don't know what will interchange.  the 3speed is bolted to the 318.  I am replacing with a 340 so I assume the bell housing will interchange.  What about the linkage, yoke and shifter?  I know when I went from a 904 to a 727 I had to change yokes and shorten the drive shaft on my E body.  Any help would be appreciated, or should I just bolt the 3 speed up to the 340?

the bell Should work If the brg retainer is the same size & needs the same hole int he bell

Thanks for the response.  What about the linkage?  I know on the 4 speed  1 and 2 gear have one linkage 3 and 4th have another and reverse has it's own linkage.  Not sure about the 3 speed.

The 3-speed and the 4-speed have a different transmission bolt pattern.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Different bolting tranny to bell housing, different Bell housing to block? what will I need to change from 3 speed to 4 speed?

The 727 yokes are the same as the A833 4-speed. The bellhousing TO ENGINE will interchange between 318 and 340...It's the bolt pattern TRANS TO BELLHOUSING that is different between the 3 and 4-speed.

So basically, NO, you can't use anything from the 3 speed except the pedal assy...
