AUCTIONS by RM have listed their results for the Labor Day auction in Auburn Indiana. They had a 1969 Daytona as a feature car! It was on an inside cover of Hemmings motor news! The Daytona was a V2 orange with black stripe car. It was a 440 with auto and console. The lot number was 5152 and had a high bid of $80,000! I am assuming it was a NO SALE at that price.

GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

Am hearing there will be a white Hemi 500 at Mecum on Saturday.

It was a no sale.  The car is pretty rough and would need a bunch more money put into it to be really nice so the bid is about right.

Wonder if it was this one.... The unrestored car that was at the Brickyard. I believe he lives in Indiana...

Like most rare cars I think the price got out of hand.NO CAR is worth that kind of money..I think it is a correction that was over due  :Twocents: I remember when 55 T-birds were selling for 135000.00 and now they sell for less than half of that.I think every car has its day then they seem to pull back and stabilize.S.birds and Daytona's are some what of the exception like the Boss 9 cars but 200K? Not so much (again my  :Twocents: )

:drool5: :drool5: If it is that white hemi off and on ebay, I sure like dat one.   So is that previous ebay white hemi 500 a fairly correct car?    :drool5: :drool5: My favorite color, white (believe it or not)

Nope, not that car.

If you go to the auction website the pictures of this Daytona are still there. I tried to copy one to add to this post but it wouldn't let me. It is V2 orange with black stripe/wing. Also has wheels painted V2 with dog dish hubcaps.

There are similar in color and red line tires .I see orange ignition box in same location on both .And yellow wire with blue crimp on terminal at starter relay on both .And one has no tips but was orange paint on pipe and both have overflow hoses with green tracer line on it and same AC Delco battery just to name a few coincedences.Maybe same guy restored them both :icon_smile_big:

I've always wondered how soo many Daytona's ended up with the 1968 auto shifter? Must be factory but why not the wood grained ball? Anyone care to explain please.

That Daytona looks nice BTW.

Except that I work for the auction company that handled both cars and they have different vins.  The photo similarities I can't explain, but having seen both cars and being into them enough to check fender tags and such... :shruggy:

We handle thousands of cars in a year Dave, it is also quite possible that someone screwed up photos.

A lot of them came from the factory with the chrome knob. I would even state that from the ones I have seen in person and in zillions of photo's the number would be between a 1/3 to half of them. Probably just frugal old Ma using up inventory. I have not paid much attention to non-Daytona's in 69 to see what came with that stuff.....anyone else?

Mopurr

Our 69 Charger  has the chrome shifter knob, but it is Aug 6, 68 build date and so theory was they were using up the old inventory, but the Daytona is May 14, 69.....same style knob......?

And based on that I did some checking today when I got a chance because wrong photos on the website or in a catalog would be a VERY BAD thing.  And you are right Dave and I am wrong, the car sold by CCP is this same one.  There is yet another Daytona in this whole mix and it is the third one (and dont even ask because this is muddy enough ) and that was the one that I was confusing it with.  I thought the CCP car had stayed in Canada when in fact it went to a state where the third I am speaking of is located.  I knew the car came from that state and incorrectly thought it to be that one.
Sorry about that.
