General 713

I have seen many cars that have matching number's, does that make it worth more or not?

Doc74

Yes it does but not always.
Any matching numbers car with the same engine as non matching will be more valuable but a non matching hemi will beat any matching whatever except the hemi itself  :icon_smile_big:

I don't know exactly how much more the value would be but I'm sure others will.

General 713

I am looking at a '69 charger with matching numbers and all of the interior is included plus 2 440's and and extra tranny for 7,500.  It is a nice car.

General 713

I would if i could but the way it is going i can't.  Unless someone can convince my parents that it is worth the money.

Rolling_Thunder

screw parents...    they always ruin things...     i wanted to get a # matching 440/4-speed RT/SE 1970 Charger and they said no...
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

General 713

Can anyone convince them :-\ :-\ ??? ???

triple_green

I have been tracking the prices of Charger for the last 8 years. They have gone up an average of 8% per year over that time period.
Matching numbers is more important on a big block car. Unless the car is a total rust bucket, you almost can't go wrong for $7500. It will be expensive to fix up though unless you can do most of the  work yourself.

I think not. ::)

General 713

It is not rusted out, the only rust on it is center trunk pan and drivers floor needs replacing and a small spot of frame rail is soft 4-5 inches from rear bumper

If it is a 318 car the #'s aren't near as significant as a big block car.

2 440's??  Is this an R/T you are looking at?  If yes, matching #'s would add typically add 25%-35% or more to it's value in my opinion.

69pistolgripRT

I know I am in the minority here. But, I would rather have a '69 matching numbers R/T 4 speed (big surprise, huh!) than a non-numbers '69 Hemi. I could always put a hemi in the Charger, but I can't go the other way without the correct engine.

That said, every time I stare at the quarters on the ragtop I think, "you know- I could sell this and put a hemi in the Charger."

If its not rusted out in the trunk and lower quarters, and all the parts are there that you can reassemble the car with, and get it roadworthy, then its probably worth $7,000.  Take a loan out from your pops, and go to this guy with good ol green backs and let the money do the talking..

Wasn't this car on ebay a couple months back?

And originally owned by the lowlife who named himself fastgnrl, Telvis could fill you in on that one  :D
That was the first car I saw a few years ago when I started hunting for one, glad I never bought it since the owner is a huge scamartist.
As long as it isn't registered to a Joe WIlkins anymore it's fine.
I had a few pics of it, it's not too bad if I recall.

General 713

I know it is not a bad car but my parents.........................er :icon_smile_angry:

General 713

I would like to buy this car myself.  I donot believe that it is an R/T.  They have seen pics before i even told you guys about it.  My dad thinks that is not worth more than $1500 with every thing included.  I want this car but another problem i have is getting it home.

General 713

What would be the best way for me to get it home if i bought it?

Do you have a truck?  or does your Dad?  Go to U-Haul and rent a car trailer and pull it home.

Do you have garage space at your parents house or will you be parking this car on the street?

Do you have a job?

no offence, but if thats the knowledge you father has on these cars, You my friend, have a lost cause.

Forget it, Save the money yourself, and go at it alone.

I wish I could give you a huge insightful post, But being a parent I know. If you can't get up the money for the car itself, you won't have the money to repair it.

HLPAG is a rip off.  I was looking a car on ebay that they were selling and i emailed him for pics and then he told me this car was worth $3000 or more.  as far as i know he still has it.  there was no trunk left, quaters were shot, bumper rusted through, no interior, tranny, and a motor that was missing it heads, all sorts of dents, a few you could now look through, and I think it did not have any glass except the wind shield which was not pretty.

I found a '70 charger in IL for $8500 but was told when i sent him a message i could have it for $7500.  it runs and drives, brakes need some work, is missing on a headliner and the rocker pannel on pass. side is rusted.  What do you guys think of this one compared to the '69.     Pics coming today if he has sent them.

Here is a 69 in FIB Land.. $9500

This is better yet..  Rust free Arizona car..  $15,000  buy this car and you'll be miles ahead in the long run.  Trust me, i know from experience several times.  i used to be just like you.

PocketThunder

So the guy in Payson said the car runs, did you ask if its roadworthy to drive it home?  He's 526 miles from you, you can do that in a weekend.  Get up real early Sat morning leave at 3:00am, get down there with your dad by 11:00am, buy the car, and drive it home by 8:00pm.  or trailer it home on a u-haul tow dolly...

Help you with what?  Financing?  If your a teen and you dont have the cash up front the first and only place to get money is with your parents co-signing on a loan for you.  Muscle car loans are around 10%.

To help you with an idea of payments:  If you borrow $7000 for 2 years at 10% that's $323 a month.  $7000 over 3 years is $226 a month.  But keep in mind that the car has to appraise for this $7000 or greater.  You should be able to find a job making $56.50 a week.  But now we're back to you parents letting you do all this. .  which, we cant help with, all that much.  You're on your own...

When I was a teen I had a lust for guitars. Nice ones. My parents wouldn't loan me a dime for them. I flipped them off and busted my ass to earn money any way I could. Mowing lawns, working under the table cleaning a veterenary hospital, whatever it took, if it paid I did it and bought what I wanted. Looking back that was perhaps my first steps to autonomy. There comes a time when when you want something bad enough, you have to take control of the situation and make it happen on your own.

If you are that bad off with your parents and have no income for a loan I really think you are stuck for now. It will probably be in your best interest to find a car your parents will agree on and eventually work your way up to a Charger. I can tell you that a Charger is not a good everyday driver in Wisconsin becasue the winters will just tear it up so you will need something else to drive anyway.

You'll have more money into it than you will get out of it...  You are better off saving the money you would invest in it over the time frame that it will take to restore it.  Then use that money to buy the car you want.

HAZZARDJOHN

You have drive! I admire that. But remember Luke 21:19 "In your patience possess ye your souls." Your young and you have motivation. What you need is focus, JimShine is right. If your parents say they don't hink you can afford it, Work and prove them wrong. There will be other cars and it will be ther when you are ready to buy, but it will be a lot sweeter if you did it on your own trust me. I am 24 years old, I have a Charger a Classic Cadillac, and a Classic Impala Convertible with 60,xxx Mile and a big block (recently sold it for a huge profit!) I did it all by working and scratching and saving. and it feels great. I am a home owner and I am looking to build a new house, and I have friends my age who are struggling to keep their crappy 1985 S-10's Running. They lack focus, They all have the same motivation I do, but they can't seem to get focused. It is a common problem with youth, but I believe if you want it bad enough you'll find a way to make it happen.

Good Luck

General 713,

I understand what you are going through man. Wasn't getting too much help from my parents, even though dad understands the soaring values. I've been trying to get my hands on a second gen since I was about 13 (I'm 16 now) and I finally got one. So recently that I havn't even gone to pick it up yet. My advice is to save your money, always remind your parents of the soaring prices, etc at the hope that they might help you out with finances. Also, keep looking for that good deal. They pop up every now and then. Even though I got my car off of Ebay, most of your good deals will be found in barns and yards of those who don't have computers, etc. I probably found about 5 of them close to me. All basket cases, but they were there, and at a much better price than on the net.
