I'm looking at a 73 Charger . The guy that owns it say he has a Tn. title for it but not in his name. What would I look for on the title to know if it is transferable the way it is. I live in Ohio and the car is just a few miles away.

Thanks

Is the title signed by the Owner on the title?

I currently have a 69 Superbee with a Tn title and bought the car from a friend (not from Tn). The courthouse says Tn is not a "notary state" so the tranfer is simple. i.e. i dont have to have the Original owner sign with a notary witness. He did sign the title when my friend bought the car.

That's what's called "Jumping the title" when one person buys said car, then resells it without paying to transfer everything in his/her name...Highly illeagal here in Va. but, it's hard to prove.

Not if the title is signed with the person you bought it from listed as the buyer.  Happened to me when I bought the Dart.  The guy who sold it to me had to pay some pennalties to make things right before the IL DMV would even touch it!

I have not seen the title yet. This is a rough car , engine removed. The car would probably just be for spare parts, but it would still be better to have a title. In Ohio the seller has to sign and fill out milage info and address ,then get it noterized before its transferable. Sometimes they leave the buyer section blank and  it will get " passed thru"  before the final buyer titles it .
Knowing TN is not a rotary state helps. Thanks.

I still have the never transfered titles of a couple cars I bought as parts cars.  They are both now all but gone into other cars.  If you are just using it for parts there is no need to worry about the title being transferable. :Twocents:
