I gotta buy a gas chain saw....everything either came down or broke off in my back yard...my 30+ foot Cherry Blossom tree broke in 7 places....it's a gonner....

Nothing I have broken off is any more than 6-8" thick....so my chipper-shredder is gonna get a good work-out this spring as well.

I found a 33cc Poulan 14" blade chain saw at Lowes & Sears for about $100....my question is: It this a decent brand? It's not like I'm gonna go out and cut trees down for winter firewood, this is mainly for my yard clean-up that's waiting for me when the weather breaks

Can't help you with the chain saw brand but sorry to see all that damage.
I'm surprised to see one of those trees is still in leaf this late in January.
Good luck with the clean up.

the large pussy willow tree bent over in the snow was full of little new fuzzy balls..it was starting to bloom as well

those green tree-shrubs are that way year round...red & green leaves

Isnt that a bit early for the pussy willow? I mean we're only at the end of Jan, no where near Springtime. Are you having a mild winter? I know my wife's relatives in Austria haven't had any real snow yet. Their lawns are still green this late in the season and they had no Xmas snow.

It's always a shame when established trees are damaged.

For a Do-it-yourselfer, that brand isn't too bad. Just make sure you can get replacement parts for it when they wear out
Make it idiot proof, and somebody will make a better idiot!

I have an 18" craftsman which served me well cutting down some old dead trees and reducing them to firewood but when we had a storm hit I knew it wouldn't keep up so I called a guy I found on CL who came over with one heck of a saw and cleaned up the whole thing for $100.  I paid him with pleasure!

If you 'r enot going to use the saw for anything else, you may want to go that route.  Doesn't hurt to get a quote or two.

we had an ice storm here a few years back. it got so heavy it brought branches down on all the trees. laying in bed that night, it would be so quiet then you would start hearing cracking and a big thud. you just had to hope it didnt hit the house. i feel for you. it sucks. :rotz:

I have that same saw or at least the predecessor to it and it's a real nice little saw. It would be great for what you're wanting it for. You might want to pick up a spare chain for it.

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

make sure it has a chain brake that activates when kick back, that little stuff will get you!  Think most saws have that nowdays.  I use nothing but Stihl saws, but outta your price range for what your doing.
