Let me set the record straight about the 6.0 it ain't junk. It's much better than the 7.3, BUT only if you stud and delete it. Mine is a beast, I'm getting a lot of power out of it with my tuner, for the 7.3 to get as much power as a stock 6.0. It would take new injectors, turbo, & tunes. The 6.0 tranny is also better and more efficient than the 7.3. I used to think the 6.0 was junk too when my head gaskets blew on it at 8X,XXX miles but I educated myself all about the 6.0 and realized that I could of even prevented the problem by. Something as simple as changing the coolant.
I've fallin in love with this motor, I'm about to start a new project with one. I'm gonna put one in a 90-91 bronco.

Kind of a moot point when the average public actually buying these things aren't gonna "Upgrade" what should have been an "Upgraded" engine from the 7.3....Nope, don't buy it...YOU might be cool with it, but the average guy/gal ain't gonna be...Hell, I'd be cool with a small block 318 LA motor if it got 50 MPG, made 750 HP realiably, and made it to 300K miles without any forced induction, but that isn't the case...
What?

my first full size trk was a 2005 ram quad cab short bed 4X2 5.7 hemi, had it for 2 years, 22K miles only changed the oil, with supechips i only got about 13 mpg around town and this was back when gas went over $4 so i let it go, regretted it ever since

Top 'o the day gang! I'm shopping for a new pickup. I've always been a GM guy and have never had any problems with any GM product I've ever owned. Unfortunately GM has decided their poop isn't offensive and priced their trucks accordingly. I like the look of the Dodge truck the last couple years. I'm hearing these have problems with their "drive by wire" system. What's the real deal about this and/or any other comments about these trucks? Thanks guys.

I have an 04 Hemi 1500 quad cab. I don't like the drive by wire as it's not as responsive as mechanical linkage. Something you'll have to get used to if you buy one, essentially it is only bothersome when you hit it and it takes a few seconds to respond.

Mine had a detonation problem and a failed engine that Chrysler refused to stand behind. 30+ years of Chrysler loyalty down the drain. Don't know what my next truck will be, but for the first time in my life, I'll be looking at brands other than Dodge when the time comes.

I'd also recommend a factory extended warranty. I have used the one on both my Chrysler vehicles quite a bit. I'm sure the other brands have problems too, and as expensive as today's cars are to fix, I think they are worth buying.

On a side note, I have an 89 D150 318 with 250k miles that runs like a top. No major repairs, just an a/c compressor and starter. One of the vehicles I use an example of what quality can be like.

the slant 6 I highly modified by milling the head installing an alum 2 bbl intake & Holley 4 bbl , custom exhaust & a lot of port work , you could easily go past 140 kph pulling hard , with it stock you could barely do 110 kph
The early cummns I just tuned the pump & removed the muffler to increase air flow
the later trucks all had chips to retune the engines + cold air intakes to make them more efficient . the last truck is 2wd so less overall drag & wind resistance . it is crazy when you can drive a 7000 lb truck & get similar milage to small economy cars !!

I've had both ford and dodge trucks, liked them both.  My last to trucks were dodge, a 1996 V-10 2500 for ten years and now a 2008 2500 mega-cab turbo diesel.  Loved the 96 V-10 (except the gas mileage), which is why I got the turbo-diesel.  Great get-up and go for a big truck.  I've had no problems with either, and believe me, I drive them hard.

XXSpiralXX

So far the last two trucks I had have been very good to me. The 94 F150 with 287K on the clock and the new to me 87 dodge ram. The ram has been awesome. Id go with an older ram diesel if I were you. You can get one in great shape for less than 18k, and it will outlast anything on the road thats made after it was. Theres a bit of wind noise though...
