Does anyone make correct '69 undercoating?

Does anyone know if correct '69 undercoating is available?

I know Badalson and Mancini both have undercoating products, but have not seen them. Don't know how accurate they are. Anyone have any testimony on those products?

Any other stuff out there?

We have used Frank Badalson's on at least a dozen cars. If applied properly, it is the best, closest to original stuff out there.

Again, it needs to be applied properly with the right equipment and air pressure.

It also helps to not try and put it all on at once....build it up in stages.

Correctly? Now you got me thinking I might have done it wrong (as if I'd fix it). What do you mean correctly? I used a Shutz gun.

It's all about finding the right air pressure and doing many light coats with decent drying times in between.....To get the factory looking texture.

3M makes undercoating in a screw on can that is called body schutz and the gun to apply it is what they are talking about. It requires a compressor to use but the bulk undercoating is cheaper and you can use a heavier consistency material  with it. There are generic guns out there but us ol timers call them all body schutz guns. Don't you hate to ask a question and get left hanging waiting for a ...

It's just a basic suction air sprayer that has no nozzle other than a straight tube. You can get them online or at any auto paint supply store.

I used 3 gallons to do the wheel wells and the insides of both quarters. I take a faitr amount to build it up to look factory.

Yup - If you are starting "clean" it takes a bunch of smaller coats to build it up to where it looks factory.

Now I'm curious.
What exactly is the difference between whats avail in the aftermkt versus thru Resto Rick or Frank Badalson ?

I used the 3M stuff and a shultz gun on my old challenger and I must say practice as well as air pressure is key to get the right texture .

I have to do the insides of two  1968 Charger 1/4 panels soon is why I ask, and I 'didn't think' it was undercoating so to speak.

I was wondering the same thing.  Chrysler would have sourced this stuff from an outside vendor in the day.  Probably all of the manf. got it from the same source.  I wouldn't be surprised if 3M wasn't the original supplier.

The original factory stuff probably contained a banned material like asbestos or something making it almost impossible to duplicate it 100%      If done properly we can get it to 99%   


Same thing for trunk mats.....That material is just not around.

There is probably something out there that will be close to Resto Ricks stuff, But why dink around when you can buy the right thing?

I just applied a gallon of restoricks product on a factory undercoated RR that needed touch up, you can't tell the old from the new.
