How do you manage your "Honey do lists" and your "Car time"

How do you guys juggle your honey do lists with the time you spend on your cars.

As of late I've been struggling to balance the two. My wife loves cars but I don't get to do as much as I like to. We both work and I get different days off to her with Saturday being the only common day off together. On my days off during the week I get a honey do list that usually takes most of the day, and the day that we do have off we usually do things together. In the few evenings during the week that I spend in the Garage I usually get grumped at.  :shruggy:

I'm starting to get really frustrated and wonder how you manage...

Fred

Been there, done that but now that I'm retired all my problems are solved. I now have plenty of time for the honey do list and because I'm home 24/7 and getting in her way  (inside the house when I'm not needed ) I'm told to go away so I get plenty of time to spend in the garage.
RETIREMENT.........no complaints :nixon:.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Ghoste

Little to no time for car stuff.  On the road a lot so when I get home the honey do has to take priority over everything.

Well, my wife is generally understanding but the car comes as second priority to the honey do lists.  The only exception is if she knows I have a show to go to and something needs to get fixed on the car she lets me slack off on the list to get the car fixed or cleaned as I start getting antsy the closer to the show I get and the charger isn't ready.  So I guess its a two way street with the most of the traffic flowing her way.  However, when the car show time gets closer, I start to have more pull.

Yes the honey do list is important but a couple hours a week or so makes it hard to pick up/drop off parts, and get sub parts restored in a timely fashion to avoid holding up the chain.

Easy solution is to get rid of the wife but I don't think that would go down well

It sucks.  I wind up working on others people stuff, or just in general not my cars.

I got my sisters 70 Charger RT interior apart now due to some frustrating things my brother in law did to the car when he built it.   My brother in law passed away at 42 six years ago.

I guess I'm lucky in that respect...Of course, when there's something that needs doing, I get the HD list done first, but most times, she doesn't get on me about it at all. She likes to do her own HD list...

I was just about to say the same thing. Give HER a honey do list of her own!
What is she doing during her time off while you're working?

I get my share of HDL's too, & I try to get them done ASAP so there's time at the end of the day to work on the cars or do other things for "me time". It's sometimes tough, & I don't get to work on them often, either. If you can, try to do even ONE small thing a day. Even making a phone call to order a part, wrapping/labeling something, whatever. It's a small step in progress, but at least it's progress.

Easy, make the kids do the groceries and trash, I do handle the tree trimming and hauling to the street, but make the kids (teen girls) mow the yard, wish they'd do the edging and weed whacking, but i'll take what i can get.  Having established a pattern that i do not jump to do a honey do list item upon request, i do it when i get around to it on my schedule.  (put off the new toilet seat now for 3 weeks-I like the old wood seat, not the flimsy plastic one the wife wants put on.

I have a high stress job so my wife knows I need my "quiet time" with my cars.

I divide the H/D list into three categories.

A list- Do ASAP to keep the peace.
B list - Complete it to stop the nagging.
C list- I'll see if I ever get to it.

She hates it when shes asks me to do something and I say I'll put it on my C list.

What car time? :shruggy:

My main problem is I work a pretty physical job so working on anything, even the Honey Do List, is pretty much out Mon-Fri. That means I get to play catch-up on the weekend with everything. I pretty much gave up on the car this year. I put new rims and tires on the car earlier this year and then drove it about 4-5 times this whole summer. There were other family things going on this summer that put the car on the backburner as well. Hopefully next year the drive will be back. I already have a few things I want to do, like add hood pins and maybe a passenger side mirror.

See, the list never ends, just the time to do them does.  ;D

Today I was going to go drop stuff off at the platers, drop some parts off to the body shop, get my heater core and evaporator tested but that's all gone now out the window. She said I can do that Friday but I'm guessing she'll have other plans for me by then.  :brickwall:

I know when to catch my wife. I mention my plans when she is not paying too much attention, then wait a while and go and do it. Yes she gets angry, but I tell her that I told her about it. After a few moments of confusion, she settles down.

I occassionaly do a thing or 2 on the list, only because I feel guilty taking advantage of her short attention span

Usually I try to sneak some stuff in while doing some of her stuff so that her stuff on the list takes a little while longer.  As for my days off, I get what is called circle time at my police job since some weeks we work a 48 hour week.  Basically it is comp time.  I get one day every 6 weeks and don't tell the wife when it is coming or when I moved it to.  This way she thinks I have work but I am actually home doing stuff on MY list!  Unfortunately it is usually house projects and not stuff on the charger.

Ive maintained that all weekends are charger time. The girlfriend gets evenings during the week since I'm at school till 930 at night anyway. I have to admit that she doesn't mind helping on the charger for the most part. She's certainly much better at cleaning up all the chrome trim than I am. ;D.

Honey Do list -  a list of something your wife, girl friend, or significant other asks you to do that seems to have a higher priority than the stuff you need to get done.... Ex) working on the car, yard work, etc.

What is a "Honey do list" :shruggy:

To translate it simply...... "Honey..... can you fix this...... Honey, while you are at it, can you do that.  Oh, and I almost forgot, the day you planned on doing your own stuff like working on the charger, mowing the lawn, fixing the leaking roof, etc all has to be put on the back burner because I want this picture hung somewhere in the house."

and it is a WHOLE DAMN DAY cause usually it has to go somewhere somehting else already is  THEN you get to move TAHT item to the next spot :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:

No, you got it all wrong, that picture she wants hung up just doesnt look right on that wall..... lets try it on this wall.....no, just doesnt look right there either,...... lets try the opposite wall...no, just doesnt look right there either,.....  try the other wall..... no, i dont know...  just a minute i'm going to call my mom and see what she thinks....

:brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:

Yup, now you just added to the honey do list because of all the holes in the walls now that you put there from putting an anchor, or nail, or whatever.  Now that means spackling, sanding, respackling to fill low spots, sanding again, and then repainting.    :brickwall:   It never ends.......  kinda like starting a resto project.   Its one big snow ball that just keeps getting bigger the more it rolls down the hill!

no, no, no,  i thought THAT part was a given, you still have to move what WAS on that wall to another wall, and so the dieing begins all over again

The honey do list in my house is left to weekends. I try to do most of the things, but being vertically challenged  , there are things I need Chucks help with. I never really nag,... i dont think. But I do understand his need to tinker with a car, play his guitar, whatever. He never needs my permission,......permission is for kids!  :smilielol:  We all need our special time to relax and do something fun!!!!  :2thumbs:

I guess winter is a good time to take care of the honey doos.  ripped out 8 tiles from the shower this morning and laid new tiles, and grouted them, too bad the tiles don't quite match...lol.  at least its fixed until i can have the whole wall done right.

With 3 cars to work on there never seems to be time to get everything done to all 3, know what i want to do, just have trouble working through the car projects.  One small piece at a time i guess is better than no progress at all.
