Today is my wifes birthday. I have had my eye on a fender Strat (a real one not a "knock off") for some time now. I think I'm going to buy it for me on her birthday...

Definately, just don't show it to her for a couple of days

One can never have enough guitars!!!

A real Strat! No question about it......buy buy buy. If she is marginally pissed you can always defend by saying, "I was on the way to buy you a new vacuum Honey but I though you'd really like this instead".

I told her I was going to buy it. She said go for it. I just wonder what she has her eye on. :scratchchin:

I always use the " I bought it because it's your birthday/whatever " excuse. Go for it.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Missed what?  It was already sold?

Yah it sold. I stoped by the local pawn shop yesterday and saw it & the price ($175.00) on it. I at first thought it was a knock off and walked by it. The color cought my eye so I took a second look and couldn't belive my eyes. I played it a bit and wanted it. I didn't have enough cash on me and didn't have enough time on my lunch to go to a ATM and get back to the pawn shop and back to work again. I wen't back on my lunch today and it's gone. Sucks to be me I guess.

Don't worry, there's plenty strats around, you'll find another for a good price.  I tried several about two years ago and never quite found the one for me as I was used to the 12" Gibson radius.  Then I played a Squier Protone strat.  If you're unfamiliar with those, they were made briefly in Korea and Fender pulled them off the market because they were so good that they cut into the Fender sales.  As soon as I played it I knew it was the one.  It has the 12" radius, it's a fat strat so humbucker in bridge position, black with black headstock, one piece maple neck with medium jumbo frets, tortoise pickguard and all gold hardware.  Oh and it has a Floyd Rose and a locking nut to boot.

It's sounds just as good if not better than any US strat I've played but I admit I am partial to this humbucker, it's just soooooo sweeet.  Nothing wrong with neck and middle pup, nothing at all, just seem to be playing that bridge pup more.

Sadly enough I don't have a whole lot of time to play anymore.  I have sold several guitars because they were pretty much collecting dust.  All I have left is the strat, an orange Gretsch G5120, a classical acoustic and my scratch build telecaster....and a saxophone or ... five....

Ok..maybe I should sell some more stuff...

I won't buy one I can't lay my hands on, look good and hard at, and play before I buy.

I have a chinese strat. It was my first guitar and is my "Go to" guitar. I swaped out the tuner machines for Grovers. Best mod so far. I'm not sure why but this thing plays so nice. I just love it. I've been thinking about swapping out the pickups but I'm not sure to what yet. I play mostlly blues and rock, some metal and just where ever my mind goes sometimes.

I told my wife I missed the one at the pawn shop. She just gave me this odd grin and said "better luck next time" Perhaps she stoped in before work and picked it up for me.

One can dream right?

I have had a 93 Mexican built Strat for years.  For my 20th anniversary at work last year I noticed that I could buy a US built strat for about $700.  The difference in tone between the two is night and day.  The Highway One I bought has an old school nitrocellulose finish on its alder body and the big 70's headstock.

http://www.zzounds.com/item--FEN111162

The Mexican plays fine, but the sound...wow...the new Strat blew me away.  It isn't louder...far from it...it is far softer but the range of tones, especially highs is just SO much better as is the sustain.  I was going to ditch the Mexican, but they are very different sounding guitars and I couldn't get more than $200 for it anyway, so I kept it.

Now if I only had time to practice and could play better   :eek2:

Stretch

My Chinees strat plays awesome, holds tune great, and sounds nice.  This "Real" one at the pawn shop sounded so much crisper and cleaner! Another one will come along sooner or later.

I too need to find more time to practice.

I really love the look of the Nighthawks, but read mixed reviews about them and kind of lost interest...not that I can afford one anyway.  I have too many guitars already I don't have time to play...Hamer Slammer with FR, 93 Mex Strat, 2010 Strat, cheap Silvertone Les Paul knock-off I picked up for a lark and an acoustic.  My Wife got me lessons last Xmas and made me promise to take them after the boat comes out in late Oct.

Stretch

Holy Shit! My wife is the one who beat me to it and she gave it to me for Christmas! What a girl! I'm speachless!
