Superbird exhaust

Hi

What was the diameter of the factory exhaust?
Were they welded or clamped at the muffler ends?

Any photos?

Mine looks factory and original? Not sure and would like to confirm before I replace.

2-1/4" was the factory exhaust size, all clamped components.

Interesting little fact - Some 440 Birds came with resonators - the B-sheet will determine that.

I was always under the impression that the California cars had the resonators.

actually head pipes are 2-1/2" inlet on the manifold end but they neck down to 2-1/4" where they enter the muffler

I am amazed that my Bird still has the original exhaust with no leaks, after 87000 miles and 40+ years.
It will be a shame to change it!

Thats correct, squished up pipes
Its original from the manifolds to the tips.

I thought it was an old "aftermarket" set up, and I  was going to change it to 2.5" pipe all the way through.
Just to improve it, I guess and get a better sound. But not now!

Remove the original equipment, carefully preserve and store, install throaty aftermarket exhaust, enjoy!

The only numbers on one of the mufflers are 21595 12 (meaning what?)
